Overview
About Me
I served in the military for 25 years, most of it as a helicopter pilot and other things. I no longer have to worry about being military or the rules I had on travel. I am ranging about and doing the things I've dreamt about for 20 years. I am traveling, hiking, camping. Seeing and doing. I am doing these things locally and internationally. I have a few to-dos, but I'm open to suggestions!
I most recently climbed Cactus to Clouds (C2C). Amazing summit experience. I've climbed higher peaks, but I have not climbed up 10,000 feet in a day prior to this. The destination is worth the beautiful journey. I loved this experience and will do it again. More importantly, C2C provides a benchmark of ability as I set my sights higher.
I grew up in Utah. I left in my early 20s and have seen many places around the world. Usually war-torn places. Panama, Japan, Korea, Germany, Afghanistan, Iraq, Romania, Hawaii. Yes, Hawaii is a state, but I lived there and it felt more like living in a foreign country. I love these lands. I love seeing the locals. I love the commonality of mankind, and I am grateful for the goodness of people.
I love the outdoors, meeting others and visiting interesting places. When I am established my couch is open and my floor is open.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
You.
You are why I'm on here.
I have observed Couchsurfing for nearly a decade but didn't get involved because of my (then) marriage and a busy life. My recent exit from the military and divorce have left me with a desire to see and do... more. Much more. I am a single father of 4 adults (live at home and go to college), and we only have a few years left together before they get on with the bulk of their lives. We will be doing some adventuring together, and I'll be doing some on my own.
But, in all my plans and designs I will have people. I need to include the CS community more as I range about, so that trust can be built. Usually, I fly by the seat of my pants, relying on a growing network of friends worldwide. I love to meet new people and share life experiences. We have all lived such interesting lives. I am now leaning on CS to increase exposure to like-minded people round this small planet.

Music, Movies, and Books
Favorite Movie: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. That said, I love a good plot and enjoy movies like Guardians of the Galaxy, Kong: Skull Island, Kung-fu, etc.
Also, Sharknado.... All of them.
Music tastes are pretty eclectic. I like most music, but gravitate to indie.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I participated in the Run to the Sun in Maui, Hawaii. A 36 mile run from 0 to 10,000 feet ended at the top of a volcano. The road is winding and laced with green and black, and as you reach the summit you find yourself out of breath and elated having run (or walked) through sun, clouds and ocean breeze.
Arduous, amazing.
Teach, Learn, Share
Would love to speak in German with native speakers. I am quite rusty, but it comes back fairly quickly.
