About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get that last piece of cheese.

ABOUT ME

I try to find humor in everyday life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think Couchsurfing is a great way to connect with open-minded people. I am living abroad for a year and want to see many places while I have the opportunity. The website is a convenient way to find hosts all over; for a couch or for a coffee. I hope to return the favor when I get my own place so people can see what life is life in the Last Frontier!

Interests

Living in Alaska requires you to have a lot of interests, because you can't do most of them year round. In the Summer, when we have long days I like to enjoy as much of it as I can outside. I enjoy walk around on the mudflats, jogging barefoot through the woods, throwing a frisbee with friends, or frisbee golf. During the Winter, I try to cross-country ski and sled, or glissade down the icy sides of mountains.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite music is various: classical, EDM, rap, ambient, really anything that is pushing the boundaries into something new (even if it was from a long time ago).

When it comes to movies, I have been embarking on a journey to watch the classics that I never had the opportunity before. The Godfather, Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Apocalypse Now, The Maltese Falcon. But that's not to say I don't enjoy more recent films as well: Lord of the Rings, Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Up!, and many more.

Beyond movies, I enjoy watching TV series from cable and on Netflix. House, Game of Thrones, HIMYM, Black Mirror, House of Cards, Breaking Bad, any others.

I've also been getting into podcasts recently. With a long commute being a new thing, I have some time on the train to use for various things. Right now I am listening to: Serial, Freakonomics Radio, Radiolab, and Hello Internet.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'll limit it to 2 things: The first is something I saw, and the second is something I did. I went on a trip to Hawai'i to the island of Kauai. While there, we took a helicopter tour of the Na Pali coast. It was probably one of the most amazing places I have seen, the mountains jut through the land near vertical, completely covered in lush green flora, the nearby water was incredibly clear and astounding shades of deep blue. And, being in a helicopter-- we were right up next to these magnificent masses, suspended in a deep valley, hovering over an emerald wedge.

While a senior in highschool I had the opportunity to go on a winter camping trip for college credit. We traversed a 40 mile pass over the course of 10 days. We learned avalanche skills, downhill skiing skills, and smart wilderness knowledge. I would have never have imagined tent camping in the woods during the winter--but it was truly amazing to be there to experience nature.
