About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Just enjoy myself wherever I am

ABOUT ME

I am a fun, easy going guy who can be shy at times. I have a bachelor's degree in modern literature with an emphasis in detective and pulp fictions. I love a good discussion especially when it comes to pop culture (books, music, and movies). I love to push my boundaries and think critically and creatively about any problems which arise. I am accepting and understanding of all cultures and I love to learn new things. I grew up partially in the American south, mid-west, and west and I completely understand the values each one of these places offered me. I spent the last year living in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Oh, and I fucking love bicycles. I don't own a car and I commute every day via bike.

PHILOSOPHY

I eventually hope to lead a life free of anxiety and worry. I want to do, see, hear, taste, feel, and smell everything. Well, maybe not everything, but you get the picture.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surf and I host when I can. I like making new friends from different backgrounds

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had one couch surfer stay with me in Los Angeles, and I have entertained other surfers when they stayed with friends. I haven't had any problems, and the culture exchange was very fun.

Interests

Books, music, movies, basketball (watching and playing), most sports, long distance running, rock climbing, hiking, camping, slack lining, I love dogs (I like all animals, but dogs especially), I like engaging conversations, I like learning, I like pushing myself both mentally and physically. Oh, I also work for a web and tech company. Technology is an interest but I prefer the natural world and human interaction. I am planning for a bike tour, which I can describe more if you are interested

Music, Movies, and Books

All of them, I mainly studied detective and pulp fictions. I love most movies, westerns, sci-fi, and fantasy ones more than others. My top ten bands are Railroad Earth, Justin Townes Earle, Atmosphere, Ryan Adams, Zac Brown Band, Old and In the Way, Howlin' Rain. I like really shocking literature, stuff that makes us question the barriers we have defined for ourselves, but I promise my personality is nothing close to as abrasive as the books I read.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been to many music festivals but the one that takes the cake is seeing Radiohead in Golden Gate park for the inaugural Outsidelands Festival. The sounds, beautiful scenery, beautiful people, and the chance to be a part of a community (however fleeting) was an amazing thing to witness. Another thing I witnessed that was really cool was people coming together to build a sandbag levee in the middle of the night during a bad rainstorm in the Mississippi River flood plain of southeast Missouri where I grew up. I was too young to help at the time, but about 10 years ago, the army corps of engineers had to blow a dam north of where my dad lived to release some of the water into the flood plain because if they didn't thousands of people would lose there homes. Well, my dad lives in the flood plain, although it is mostly farmland. There are several channels already dug out for this type of situation but the water was getting unusually high and with the news of the blown dam, hundreds of farmers and their families had to strengthen the channels and levees with sandbags in the middle of one crazy storm. In the mud, rain, and terrible winds of the that midwestern storm, they managed to build everything up by morning at which point they were in the clear.
