About Me

I'm a 22-year-old recent university graduate from the United States (Florida specifically) traveling through Asia and Europe for five months before starting work.

I'm passionate about people, understanding our world better and learning about the places I travel to. I'm very low maintenance and a light packer; you'll barely know I'm there. I love to hang out with my hosts if you have time, but if you don't that's OK too. I can't cook, but I'm great at cleaning up afterward!

I have a love for the arts, music especially, which I would love to share with you! I also love having conversations about life and where we fit into this world, maybe over a few drinks!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm sociable but an introvert, so I'm more drawn to one-on-one conversations and getting to know a few people well, rather than meeting a bunch of new people everyday in a hostel but never knowing them.

I also would much rather meet locals to learn about the places I'm visiting, rather than a bunch of other travelers (though I do love meeting travelers and hope to host when I get home to help achieve that goal!)

Interests

My biggest interest is music and the arts in general (any medium!) but I also love learning more about the world and better understanding it. That means some of my favorite topics involve things like psychology, sociology, philosophy, politics and travel. These are all ways to better understand the world, our place in it and the ways in which we connect to those around us. I learn through reading books and articles, watching documentaries and hearing the testimonies of the people around me.

More importantly, I'm interested in YOUR interests. One of my favorite things to do is learn about something I know nothing about from somebody who is passionate about it. If you're interested in a niche topic like Polish new wave cinema or Soviet-era architecture, I'd love to hear about it from you so I can learn more!

I don't follow many sports outside of American college football, but I love watching soccer and I'm always down to watch sports with a few beers.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love watching movies, but my movie knowledge is very lacking. I'm working on it, and have a queue of independent and foreign movies on my laptop to get to — maybe we can watch them together! My favorite movie I've seen recently was Short Term 12.

As far as books, I love reading non-fiction and memoirs that help broaden my view of the world and help me understand the perspectives of others. My new favorite is Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, a striking account of America's struggle with racial equality.

Now MUSIC, I could go on for hours, literally. One of my favorite things to do is talk about music, so if you fall in the same boat we should hang out! My favorite artists include Bon Iver, American Football, Kanye West, Sufjan Stevens, Into It. Over It., M83, Freelance Whales and more. As far as genres, I love indie pop, pop punk, alternative hip hop, Midwestern emo, indie folk, math rock, neo-soul and more!

I also love to make mixtapes, so that's just another benefit of hosting me!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing I've done is set off on my current 5-month trip. I turned down a job offer and put my life on hold to pursue my love of travel. I was terrified at first, because I had never traveled alone, I was going to regions of the world I knew nothing about and I was putting my career prospects — and LIFE — on hold.

But now that I've been on the road for three months, I know this is where I need to be. It has been an incredible experience of learning, growth and adventure!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach about music, American politics, American sports, social justice issues and the places I've been.

I'd love to learn about your country, any interesting niche passions you have, music you like to listen to and culture from where you grew up.

I wish I could share cooking abilities, but I'm a terrible cook. I'm great at cleaning up after dinner, though!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Music is my most knowledgable and passionate subject. I can spend hours talking to you about music, introducing you to new artists, listening to music and making you mixtapes/playlists. Music makes me happier than anything.

I am also well-versed in social justice issues, especially as they relate to the United States. On a related note, I am quite knowledgeable about the U.S. political system and current political landscape (which has come in handy on my travels as many folks are interested in the road to our current election situation).

I can also share stories from my travels and give you suggestions if you hope to travel anywhere I have been!

I have lots of music/movies/ebooks on my computer that I would be happy to share with you, and I can probably find what you're looking for if I don't have it!

Also, I worked at a student newspaper and can edit writing in English, if that's something you need!
