About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To understand the meaning of Being-in-the-world, one Dasein at a time until its gone.
ABOUT ME
Hi. My name is Ryan. I am 23 years old, I am currently a full-time student (and I have been for quite some time), and I currently live in Denver, Colorado. I realized upon starting to write this description how difficult it can be to actually talk and describe oneself, but I'll nevertheless try to do the very best that I can to be succinct as I possibly can.
-I like many different things, and there are many different things I find fascinating in life; but, given my nature-which I have come to openly love and embrace-I try to remain reasonable with myself, and devote myself to only a few things. Perhaps I don't have enough hobbies, but oh well.....
-I love to write, and as a philosophy student do so quite frequently. I am soon to graduate, and post graduation would like to quickly begin a Ph.D, program devoted to Western Philosophy. I would like to educate someday, as a professor of higher education, and attempt to discount the Heideggerian notion that suggests that the greatest threat to philosophy is the philosophy professor himself.
-I also like music, very much so, and when not consumed by school, I enjoy devoting much of my time to playing the guitar, manipulating sound, and building guitar effect pedals.
-My best friend, in the whole wide world, is a dog by the name of Cornealius, and we hang out ALL of the time. He's a pretty understanding guy, so talking to him about the perils of life is always an amazing and comforting experience.
PHILOSOPHY
"And if I transgressed, and went into many fields of science and humanities, it was not because I was born a rebel. I was coerced to trespass, and then I knew that I would have to stay long, here. I knew also that my work would find quite an opposition. But I did not know the extent... the extent of this opposition, and the violence."
The belief that we are living in an orderly Universe, that nothing happened to this Earth and other planets since the beginning, that nothing will happen 'till the end, is a wishful thinking that fills the textbooks... And your textbooks are still of Victorian vintage.
In this short period of time that I have, I hope to leave here with some seeds, some ferment of thought, of skepticism, of a new look at the Universe, and what is in it...
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've only just recently joined the couch surfing movement, but so far I have been amazed by everything about it. I am most excited about having the opportunity to network with people all around the world, and I look forward to learning new, interesting things from everyone that I have the opportunity to meet.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Again, I am fairly new to CouchSurfing, but I am looking forward to becoming an active member of its expansive-yet welcoming community. I am excited to both host and surf, so I can't wait to meet new, interesting people!
Interests
I like many things, but for the sake of keeping myself from getting overwhelmed, I try to keep myself devoted to only a few different interests at a time.
-I love philosophy-specifically Western Continental philosophy-and hope someday that I have the opportunity to disseminate its greatness as a professor.
-I love to travel, but also, at the same time, I love to stay home and be by myself. So, my situation is a bit of a conundrum, but thus far I have managed to do enough of both. Perhaps after I graduate, and before I enter into my Ph.D. program, I'll disappear for an undisclosed amount of time and thusly pursue a life of minimalistic self-enlightenment.
-I like listening to music, and making it as well.
-I love good cinema, but alas, because of my tendency to get distracted, I haven't spent enough time with it lately.
-I also love riding my fixed-gear bicycle, and am fascinated by its perpetual motion.
