About Me
This is years out of date. I don't even want to read it. I now live in Berlin, working for a language learning start-up called Chatterbug.
CURRENT MISSION
To become better acquaited with beastly Beijing
ABOUT ME
Hi all,
I'm Ryan. I'm an English teacher living in Beijing. This is my second year living here, and I really like it. It's interesting and a lot of fun. I still have a lot to discover; now especially as I have moved to the historic area around the Lama Temple. The area has an abundance of restaurants, cafes and bars, which, one by one, I am slowly testing out. I like riding my bicycle through the alleys in my spare time, and meeting my friends for food and drinks. I'm gonna try and buy a spare bike soon to have in case any of you good people wanna join me.
If you'd like to stay you needn't send a long request and force yourself to guess what we might have in common. Just send me your dates, and maybe what you plan to do in Beijing. I can read your profile to get a sense of who you are.
PHILOSOPHY
"Arriving at each new city, the traveler finds again a past of his that he did not know he had: the foreignness of what you no longer are or no longer possess lies in wait for you in foreign, unpossessed places."
Italo Calvino, Invisible Cities

Music, Movies, and Books
James Joyce, Henry Miller, Tanizaki, Hubert Selby Jr, Orwell, Calvino are some writers I like.
Stewart Lee and Doug Stanhope.
The new Atoms for Peace album. Talking Heads, Grizzy Bear, Hella, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Iron and Wine, Calexico, Aphex Twin, Four Tet, Burial.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I saw a pair of snakes swimming elegantly on the surface a lake in Myanmar. Living in Myanmar was a wonderful experience all around. I highly recommend visiting if you get a chance, because it's changing a lot these days.
Teach, Learn, Share
Couchsurfing University! Hahaha
I can show how to get to places. That'll be pretty useful for sighseeing, etc. I'm not sure what other wisdom I can impart. I don't have much in the way of 'esoteric knowlege'. I can talk shit, if that counts.
