Overview
About Me
I'm Ryan, a Southern California native looking to explore the world a bit more! The last time I used Couchsurfing was in 2016 in Paris, and it was one of the best experiences of that entire trip. Since then I've moved away from the film industry and started teaching, which has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I'm planning on coming to Europe again in 2022 with my brother, which should be an amazing time.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Money is always a little tight as a substitute teacher, but the main reason I'm drawn to couchsurfing now is because of the people you meet and the immersion into their culture that they can offer. Staying in a hotel is boring, safe, and doesn't teach you anything about the place you're traveling to. I want to be a part of the cities I travel to, not just a tourist.
I have yet to host anyone in my home, because it is a tiny 100m2 studio with not much room for anyone else. I'd love to show people all of the things to do in Southern California though, once my living situation is a bit more spacious.
Interests
I love surfing and skateboarding in Southern California, as well as off-roading in my truck to go camping in the woods. Movies, TV, books and videogames are also a big part of my free time, and I'm also a student of urban design, public transit, political theory, sociology, and history.

Music, Movies, and Books
I listen to a lot of classic rock, indie rock, rap, and electronic. Favorite bands include The Black Keys, Tame Impala, Modest Mouse, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Flume, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Daft Punk, MF DOOM, Biggie Smalls, and Kendrick Lamar.
My favorite movies are Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Mad Max Fury Road, and Danny Darko, but also include such classics as Apocalypse Now, Blade Runner, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Indiana Jones, Alien, and a lot more.
I've read so many books its hard to keep track, but the Harry Potter series will always be one of my favorites. I also love anything written by Ray Bradbury or Kurt Vonnegut.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Surfing with dolphins is one of the most incredible memories I've had. That happened on a weekend where my friends and I camped out in the desert, snowboarded on Big Bear Mountain, and surfed along Huntington Beach. It was exhausting, but amazing.
