About Me

I'm a medical student at University of Texas Medical Branch. My dream is to practice neurology, preferably with clinical trial research for novel treatments.

I enjoy traveling to meet people, share thoughts, and learn about different cultures. There are always good stories to tell and to listen to. If I am traveling with a work component - it is for a teaching hospital/clinic, away medical rotations, or volunteer medical mission trips. If this is the case, I may or may not be able to share a lot of time beyond home cooking and some conversation, due to work constraints.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

First to meet new and interesting people! And to share my homestyle cuisine and interesting conversation.

Expectations for Guests: If I am the host, I may not have time in schedule to help you with requests. To be clear, you are responsible for paying for your own travel-related expenses and I do not lend money, you will need to prepare and manage this. Please clean up after yourself. I normally do not accept guests staying for more than a week. I can only offer guests air mattress, pillows and blankets at my place or a couch, as I do not have any extra beds. No smoking or recreational drugs at my place.

Just wish to set expectations straight since it can vary so much by individual. If this does not align with your expectations, please consider another host, as I wish to maximize positive experiences for both sides.

Expectations for Hosts: If I am the guest, I will normally be sharing cooking. I may not necessarily be able to spend a lot of time to hang out with you - it really depends on schedule as to whether we would consider spending time to tour around - especially if I am working. Note I usually sleep earlier than 11PM, and usually wake up 7AM if we are in similar timezones.

Although I carefully read your profile in case before requests - I may not be able to glean your expectations. If you require clarification before accepting a stay, please do tell me and do not hesitate, so we both have a positive experience.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm a Top Writer on Quora: quora.com/profile/kayee-tong

Teach, Learn, Share

My main interests of research are clinical informatics and biotech (vaccines, medical devices & pharmaceuticals).

I’m proficient in Chinese language and comfortable with programming languages too. I personally experienced and am well read in Chinese history, culture and art.

I used to do drop-shipping, by buying and selling goods on eBay, after a trip to the Canton trade fair.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I usually bring aged tea (may be Yunnan pu-erh, regular black, or random oolong) brewed in a custom hand-painted gaiwan or if I run out, I also have some specialty coffee like Hawaiian Ka’u. Sometimes both. I will warn you in advance, I’m a bit of a tea snob haha! If you do not sit well with anything that has caffeine, don’t worry about offending me though!

And as mentioned, I also share conversation and cooking with hosts.
