"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness."
- Mark Twain
I'm easy going, yet driven. I'm really not offended by much of anything. I want to get a lot out of life. I believe in living your dreams. If you'd love to do something, then get off the couch and figure out how to make it happen. At the core, I'm a thinker; so I love an interesting conversation. But I also love getting out and having fun with cool people. From what I've learned about Couchsurfing so far, chances are pretty good that you're one of the cool people.
PHILOSOPHY
I think everyone should learn as much as possible. It gives us much needed perspective. Disagreement happens only because we haven't yet figured out how it is we actually agree. I think you can do anything you put your mind to. If you have a dream, then stop sitting on the couch and make it happen… unless your travel dreams include surfing my couch. Then you can sit on the couch AND accomplish your dreams. That also means that my couch is "The Couch of Your Dreams." Hmmm… maybe you should say that in your couch request. :-)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
http://devour.com/video/couch-surfing
Once upon a time, I traveled for many months surfing the couches of kind hosts along the west coast of the US. It was such a great experience that, upon returning home, I hosted nonstop for a good year+ before moving to Europe and surfing all over there. Now I've settled in Portland (discovered on my original CS trip) and host people traveling here like I once was. It's the circle of CS.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
"Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity. They seem more afraid of life than death."
- James F. Byrnes
I found this site just before I began my long travels. In the four months I spent surfing the couches of others and many many months of hosting I've done since, I have only met incredible people! This community really has renewed my faith in humanity. I had no idea that there were so many great people out there--and so many of them generous enough to share their home. I'm honored to give back. My thanks to everyone on this site who helps make it great!
Interests
Travel, obviously. I love music: playing, listening, talking. Software. Technology. Literature. Writing. Thinking. Philosophy. Aesthetics. How things work. History. And pretty much everything else.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
"Every increased possession loads us with new weariness."
- John Ruskin
One thing I did to get ready to travel long-term was to sell most everything I owned. This really made me realize how little I actually need. I took the bare minimum with me while I lived with a friend for a few months and found that I didn't even use 80% of the stuff I brought there. Now, I think everything I really need will fit in my backpack. But what's really important won't fit in a bag of any size.
