À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

to live or die trying....

ABOUT ME

I grew up on a small Island off the coast of N. Carolina that was only accessible by ferry. Yes, ferry, as in, no bridges, tunnels, etc. Completely isolated. As much as this sounds like a perfect dream, it was and wasn't. It allowed me to feel a unique connection to people and general safety that only small towns can give, as well as an appreciation for smaller things that go unnoticed in larger towns and cities. Yet, the island also created a feeling of being trapped with nowhere to go. Ultimately living there led to both metaphysical and physical travel as an escape until I finally removed myself from the island after completing high school. I find now that traveling is still a form of escape for me, in one way or another. Whether from the mundane grind of daily life, work and school, to tender memories that need time to be accepted or forgotten. I have yet to reach a verdict of whether or not this is a good reason to travel and whether it works in the long run, but for now it's all I have.

PHILOSOPHY

If I had to sum it up in two words: Zen Buddhism

But I don't think it's that easy to define my thought - a lot of my personal philosophy comes from equal parts Eastern thought mixed with cliché sayings/ideas with a dash of romanticism and pinch of salt. An example would be favorite two mantras:

The first step is to take that step.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I know what it feels like to not have a place to sleep, also how nice it is to save money - so I do what I can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first CS experience was surfing all over Ireland in the winter of 09/10 with my friend Riley. It was a great experience, meeting local people and just having that warm feeling of a host rather than a hostel or motel. When I got back to the states I decided that I needed to change my couch status from maybe to Yes! and start keeping people here.
My second great experience was a cross-country road trip in the winter of '11-'12 where I drove 6,000 miles across the United States and back, where I stayed with many hosts and was treated extremely well. It opened my eyes to the underlying generosity and kindness of all people regardless of where they live. I had some truly magical experiences on that road trip and it has forever changed me. It would not have been the same without Couch Surfing.

Centres d'intérêt

photography, typography, things that sound fancy and end in -phy, mountain biking, reading, writing, traveling, other things that end in -ing, beautiful women, good beer, breathtaking sights, telling and listening to stories, zombies, coffee.I've been cooking professionally for 10 years now in various restaurants, and love to share my knowledge and hospitality with all. This also means I'm into crude humor, vulgar language and usual back of house murk. But don't let this scare you, I'm a pleasant guy when I get home and off the line.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Just about anything bookwise - mainly sci-fi and fictionPaulo Coehlo, Neal Stephenson, Isaac Asimov, Anthony Bourdain. I could listen to and read anything from Alan Watts. Music - Hip hop, reggae, bluegrass, chillout, whatever...Nujabes, Cyne, Yonder Mountain, Pretty Lights, Lotus, Thievery Corporation

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

I live in my vehicle full time at the moment. It's the most rewarding and challenging thing I've ever done. All the road trips I've taken in the past are nothing compared to having no end in sight and learning to be adaptable and capable to tackle any problem while being fully self-sufficient.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

Vehicles, engines, overlanding. Those have become my specialties. I'm down to learn anything and I'll teach anything I know. Let's practice Spanish or discuss the best overlanding setup.

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

A beer, a coffee, a great hotsprings, a sunrise or sunset. I can't offer much space because I don't have much to give. It's pretty cramped in our camper with a woman, a man and their dog. Instead we can share time and experiences.

Pays que j'ai visités
