About Me

I am from the west coast of Canada, so I am a great lover of the ocean and forests.

Since graduating university, I have worked in a variety of jobs relating to the environment, including kayak guiding, fisheries monitoring, municipal composting, non-profit administration, gardening, and most recently environmental education.

During this time I have also had a chance to travel and have been lucky to see most of Canada by train, driven the coast to San Diego and back, plus had the privilege to visit Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, UK, France, Spain, Germany and Senegal.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, running, hiking, dancing, drawing, cooking, watching movies, kayaking, spending time with friends, and learning (currently a full time student).

I have had a curiosity about the world ever since I received a subscription to National Geographic when I was five. I love learning about all aspects of different cultures, especially history, cuisine and art/architecture.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I've travelled in the past, I like to take my time to really get a feel for a place, rather than stop for a day, visit the tourist attractions, and jump on a bus to the next stop on the itinerary. Couchsurfing seems to offer an opportunity to see the world through a different lens and gain a more genuine understanding of a place. I would love the opportunity to gain that perspective and meet likeminded people.

I am heading to the Los Angeles area after Christmas for a meditation retreat in the mountains to ring in the New Year, but I have a couple days before and after the retreat to explore the downtown, and I’d be so grateful for a host :)

I also love my home, and, upon returning, I look forward to returning the hospitality to other travellers and showing them what my corner of the world has to offer.

Interests

- Reading and keeping up on current events
- Spending time outside: running, hiking, kayaking, foraging, surfing (when I get the chance! I am still learning), gardening
- Art and architecture (making and viewing, respectively)
- Good food! I love cooking and getting the chance to try new cuisines
- Music and dance: I don't play an instrument, but I enjoy a bit of everything; I love to dance, and most recently finished some beginner flamenco classes
- Nature and the environment: I am pretty passionate about these issues and love to explore new environments

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I love a bit of everything from rock to pop to classical and beyond (last three concert attended were Jorja Smith, Janelle Monae, and FKA Twigs)

Movies: I used to be a bigger cinophile, but I seem to go the movies less often right now. I usually enjoy movies by Wes Anderson, David Fincher, Michel Gondrey, Spike Jones etc... I really enjoy foreign and documentary films as well.

Books: I love reading, especially literary non-fiction, fiction, history etc. Most recently I've enjoyed, "Daughter of Fortune" by Isabel Allende, "The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver, and "Remains of the Day" by Kazuo Ishiguro.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Kayaked with humpback and killer whales off the Pacific coast of Canada.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love the opportunity to improve my language skills - most recently have focussed on French.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love a good conversation, and I pride myself on being a good guest (clean, respectful).
