About Me

CURRENT MISSION

CONSUME, SLEEP, OBEY... ^^

ABOUT ME

Hi there! well as you can see I'm Sophie, and I enjoy travelling, learning languages, meeting new people, and most obsessively, music! (listening/playing/singing...)
Also there's one thing you need to know about me if you're planning to visit us in Lyon, it's that I talk about food all the time! I love to eat, and I know all the best "boulangeries" and restaurants in Lyon!! :P
I've been living in several cities in France, I used to move a lot because of my mother's job, so I've always been used to arriving in a completely new place, making friends, discovering the city, coping with different mentalities... I think this made me a very curious, friendly and open-minded person.
After studying audiovisual / sound engineering for 2 years, I moved to Ireland where my older brother's been living for 7 years, and I spent the most amazing year of my life in Dublin, as a barmaid and waitress, getting to meet such different people all the time, it was really awesome!!
And then I moved to Brussels and lived there for 3 years, enjoying the belgian beers and the warm atmosphere (but NOT the warm weather!!!), studying speech & language therapy (logopedie / orthophonie).
I now am back in France, and after spending 6 months in Lille, I'm currently living in Lyon, working as a speech and language therapist, and enjoying this city very much!
I took a year off far from this beautiful city though, during which I travelled in South-East Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam) from February to April 2013, with my boyfriend during the first half of my trip and then solo for the last half, and it was the best experience ever!!! I loved every minute of it! (Well, wait, maybe not the part where I got sick because of the food... haha but it had to happen, at least once :)
Then I went to work for 8 months on paradisiac Reunion Island, a french oversee department close to Madagascar, which also was a wonderful experience. Loved the hikes, the mix of cultures!
Then, to end this year of amazingness, I spent 4 months with my boyfriend in French Polynesia, another paradise, (well, his mother lives there, what can I say :P) making friends with hermit crabs and friendly sharks, playing ukulele with fishermen, exploring the Marquesas Islands on board a cargo ship... A year we will never forget!
Fred works in IT and enjoys rock climbing a lot. He also plays guitar, and sometimes sings cover of Spice Girls songs (if you buy him enough beers).
Our adorable little girl was born in December 2015, she sleeps well at night so there should be no problem with that :) (well, if you buy her enough beer, too - whe gets that from her father).

PHILOSOPHY

I think life is short, and we have to make the most of the time we have here!! so I try to always see the good side of things, living day to day, seizing every small occasion life is giving me to discover, have fun, learn, teach, help, give, love... and trying to remain true to myself. And I believe most things happen for a reason, and we always have something to learn from them, and from people we meet on the way...

Interests

MUSIC!!! (I like to sing and play guitar, ukulele, saxophone (in a former life! haha), am trying to learn the piano, and I have also tried to play cello for about 3 months (which means that when I played it, it sounded like the world was gonna end :S )), languages, people, places, secret places, food, outdoors, sports (running, traditional african dances), playing "tarot" (card game)...

Music, Movies, and Books

BOOKS: I'm a big fan of Calvin and Hobbes <3
I read a lot, many books at a time depending on my mood of the moment... I love explorers' journals (Alexandra David-Neel, Sir Richard Burton...), comic books, but also fiction and more serious stuff.

MUSIC: I think the Eels are my favorite band! Although I discovered the Dirty Projectors recently and have to say I like them a lot ^^
A few other bands that I like : Sallie Ford, Beirut, Emiliana Torrini, Belleruche, Bonobo, Fink, Garbage, Kate Nash, Little Dragon, Aretha Franklin, Flyleaf, Skunk Anansie, KT Tunstall, Jude, Jack Johnson, Ojos de Brujo, A Perfect Circle, Incubus, K's Choice, Jay Brannan, Simon and Garfunkel, the Beatles, Mariee Sioux, Silverchair, Leah Andreone, RATM, the White Stripes, Alanis Morissette, Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple, Kila, Ben Harper, Arcade Fire, Nosfell, Asian Dub Foundation, Sporto Kantes, Boards of Canada, Bjork, Jeff Buckley, the Cranberries (well, their old stuff), the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Smashing Pumpkins (old stuff too!), Radiohead, the Fugees, Lisa Ekdahl, ShivareE, Blur, Gorillaz, Massive Attack, Tricky, SOAD, Thomas Fersen, dEUS, Sharko, Mass Hysteria...

MOVIES: I like them a lot, and have seen quite my share during my audiovisual studies, but can never remember titles or directors' names when someone asks me this u_u
Well here's a few of my favorites : They live ("Invasion Los Angeles"), Blade Runner, Brazil, Shaun of the dead, Baz Lhurman's Romeo+Juliet, Devdas, Once, Chasing Amy ("Meprises multiples"), Black Sheep, Birdy, Le cochon de Gaza, Little miss sunshine, Napoleon dynamite, Walk the line, The color purple, Back to the future, Star Wars...
Also I watched Dark Crystal, Short Circuit ("Johnny 5"), and *Batteries not included ("Miracle sur la 8eme rue"), about a million times each when I was a kid.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sleeping in a tree-house in Thailand :D
Being invited to 2 weddings in Laos! Where I ate rat and drank duck's blood jelly!
Going to Ireland with just a backpack, to try finding a summer job, and ending up living there almost 1 year and a half! It was such an amazing experience in my life!
+ meeting E in person at an Eels concert =P

Teach, Learn, Share

Maybe I could teach a little origami, some basical cooking, a little guitar / ukulele...
And I would love to learn those same things too :D or anything else really! I'm so curious about everything (that's why I sleep so little! And tend to procrastinate a lot!!)
Oh and I want to learn how to cycle without holding my hands!!!
Also, it might sound weird but I very much enjoy building IKEA furnitures. So if you need any help with this...
