About Me
FYI I'm constantly traveling so may not always check so shoot me a message on Instagram: Saathebasher
I'm Saad Bashir and am currently a 26 year old graduate of Georgetown University in Washington DC studying mostly energy economics, project finance and the Belt Road Initiative. My family is from Lahore, Pakistan and I also lived and worked at a bank in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan in 2018. I spent all of 2019 and into 2020 until Covid hitchhiking from Greece to Australia doing freelance journalism about the Belt and Road Initiatice, but only made it halfway unfortunately to Pakistan before the world shut down. I then spent the summer as a fisherman in Alaska with Russian Old Believers. Since then I have gone back to fish every summer for the past 4 years.
I bought a motorcycle and as of October 2nd, 2020, I've been riding across all of North and South America until I made it to Ecuador where I lived for 1.5 years building environmental and education projects especially with the indigenous peoples of the Amazon.
I am now more or less moving to Vienna, Austria and hoping to pursue my masters degree in supply chain management here.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm an avid traveler and backpacker like most people on here I assume. I love to travel and spend more time with locals than doing the touristy things. I also love to help those who have similar attitudes and share cultures and stories. My doors are always open for those who appreciate the lifestyle.

Music, Movies, and Books
I have a very peculiar music taste. Although I'll listen to most anything, I have a thing for music in various different languages ranging from Persian to Kazakh to Italian. My English taste is mostly in R&B and EDM, especially Deep House.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hitchhiked through Sudan during the revolution
White water rafted in the Nile of Uganda
Scuba dived in 6 countries
Hiked across the Darien Gap solo
Nearly started a trivia TV show in Ecuador
Way too many crazy stories to count
Teach, Learn, Share
I like to fully encompass the idea of being a nomad and my motto is to always live like a local. While traveling, I'm obsessed with learning every small detail on language, music, culture, history, and whatnot. And while hosting, talking to me is like traveling the world without ever leaving my apartment. The most fascinating thing is how cultures and languages are similar and connected in the most bizarre ways so you'll definitely learn some random facts.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I've got a very outgoing personality with eccentric albeit interesting tastes in music, travel, and a variety of cultural aspects. I can also chat about linguistics or energy for hours on end if you're interested in that stuff. Also a plethora of crazy stories for all who want to listen.
