About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Play hard, work hard and raise a teenager (while plotting our escape to life on a sailboat...)

ABOUT ME

Sabine was conceived in Africa and raised on the Brittany coast France. She traveled to the U.S. in the '90s and spent the last decade in the West, formerly in Steamboat Springs, CO, now in Teton Valley, Idaho. She has been raising her daughter Lia, now 13, and running a business specializing in home soft furnishings. Rob was born in central Los Angeles, escaping the big city to pursue wilderness adventures across the West and the World. A long-time whitewater river guide, he has dabbled in a variety of outdoor vocations, including scuba instructor, river ranger, ski patroller and sailor. Nowadays he's a nine-to-fiver doing GIS / mapping work for local government. A couple for more than three years now, we're both enjoying the mountains but planning to migrate back to the ocean, where we hope to live aboard a sailboat and travel the world once more.

PHILOSOPHY

Balancing Purpose, Freedom and Income(the latter being a necessary evil). Live to the fullest by experiencing different adventures, environments and cultures. Raising a daughter who is creative, compassionate and fun.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For now we're interested mostly in hosting surfers at our home in Teton Valley, at the base of Wyoming's Teton Range and near Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Officially, we're newbies to couchsurfing.com, though between us we've done a bunch of low-budget travel, back country camping and hostel-hopping.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Les Intouchables, Singing in the Rain, True Grit (the new one), Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Basically, we love all movies that aren't formulaic Hollywood filler. Music: Latin, Some favorite authors: Emile Zola, Cormac McCarthy, Ernest Hemingway, David Sedaris, Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Big whitewater in Zimbabwe and Uganda, sunrise in the Khumbu of Nepal, lazy days in the Grand Canyon, swimming in the mid-Atlantic, skiing unbelievable powder, long hikes in Utah red rock country, swarming sharks in the Caribbean... the list goes on and on.

Teach, Learn, Share

Geography, environmental education, whitewater skills, French language skills, sewing, general wilderness / navigation skills. We want to absorb global perspectives, culture and language.
