Overview
About Me
Living by the sea brings us lots of visitors during the summer, both family and friends. Don't let this deter you from applying for a couch. If we can fit you in we will try. Short stays are more likely to succeed.
We are perfectly located for those people walking the SW Coastal Path. A comfy bed with en-suite, great food and maybe a glass of something you fancy. It gets better, we have a washing machine so you can do your laundry!
If you don't want to stay but would like to meet for coffee/chat/food/information etc then we would be pleased to accommodate you if we can.
Moving on to your couch request. Before you make a request please read our profile through and understand where we are really coming from, what we like, what we dislike, what excites us, what values we have and ultimately if you feel we would get on if we gave you a couch to sleep on. You will need to answer a question from our profile before we will consider you for a couch. Don't find it, don't answer it? Then you can forget your bed!!
We firmly believe that CS is about broadening everyone's horizons, making new and lasting friends and we want to offer the sort of hospitality that you might have got on a pilgrimage several hundred years ago.
We've had a number of couch requests that we have declined because people have not read our profile thoroughly and clearly have no interest in us as human beings.
CURRENT MISSION
Carpe Diem
ABOUT US
In 2008 we retired early, packed a rucksack and became constant travellers. After that, every year when it got cold in October we got on a plane and when the Spring flowers came out in April we came home. We had rented out the house so we got into our touring caravan and continued to travel.
The arrival of our first grandchild in 2018 focused our minds and we decided to settle down and develop some roots. In 2019 we chose Seaton although we still intend to travel......it's in our blood now!
PHILOSOPHY
Life is not a rehearsal......so stop making excuses and live it now. However, do it slowly, take the time to appreciate what you see, hear, smell, touch and taste!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We've surfed several times in several countries. We've had a great time, met some fantastic people with really interesting stories to tell.
If you want to surf our couch then your request should show that you have read our profile. Perhaps you could tell us which city made us feel 'humble'?
Couch surfing for us is about meeting new people and making new friends.....it's not just about a cheap bed.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Surfed, travelled with a number of other surfers and host in the Summer.
Interests
Travelling, meeting people, walking, experiencing new cultures, food, wine, Neil likes sport generally and and used to play squash before his eyes and knees packed up and, generally, we love life.
Now that we have settled down we volunteer with a few local organisations and we've joined a gym. Neil says he knows it makes good sense to keep fit but he still doesn't enjoy it!
We both still have things to do on our bucket list which will involve trips to new countries and to revisit some others. Time is running out!

Music, Movies, and Books
Glastonbury Festival regulars, when we can get tickets! - enjoying the fringe stuff as well as the big names. Neil particularly loves Blues, Ska, Reggae, Dad Rock...but we will listen to anything except Country and Rap (with a silent C).
Cheryl's favourite film is Life is Beautiful.
Neil reads Biographies occasionally, Cheryl reads anything which is why she thinks she is smarter than him.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Seeing a smartly dressed young man with no legs riding a skateboard, fling himself and his business satchel on and off a Bangkok river ferry. No help needed, just a "It can be done" attitude. How humble that made us both feel.
Teach, Learn, Share
Years of experience in Sales, Marketing (horrific....please don't waste your life doing this!), project management, accountancy, property management; investments.
Happy to help and advise at any time. We have lots of time and have helped a few small businesses and guesthouses in our travels.
What I Can Share with Hosts
We are older than many couch surfers which brings many years of life experience. During our travels we have been to and seen so many wonderful things, met some fascinating people and done some amazing things. Have you ever walked along the Great Wall of China? Maybe you’ve trekked to Everest and Annapurna Base Camps? Or perhaps you’ve snorkelled with 6m whale sharks? We have lots of things to share but we are just as interested in you! Where you have been, who you have met or maybe you’ve even surprised yourself in some way. It doesn’t matter, you’re on couchsurfing so you are special and we’d like to meet you.
