About Me

PLEASE READ BEFORE REQUESTING: I'm currently traveling around a lot and never in the same place for very long, so I will NOT be able to host you. Please don't send requests. Sorry! Also.. my response rate is so low because creepy dudes keep messaging me after I put up public trips :')

After graduating with my bachelors in 2016, I spent the next year backpacking through Europe and I started my master's degree this past September 2017. I'm in an Erasmus Mundus program studying Migration and Intercultural Relations. Through my program, I've lived in Germany, Norway, and now South Africa.

I love to read and write and find cool things on the internet.

Someone once asked me if I'm long-term traveling because I'm "running toward something" or "running away from something" and so I'm still trying to figure that out.

I'm a real person, I swear! Check out my instagram (www.instagram.com/sadtourist) 😋

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Love meeting knew people in amazing places around the world. I truly believe that what goes around comes around, so I'm really thankful that the CS community exists! Once I'm settled down somewhere, I can't wait until I'm able to host people. For now, I'm traveling too much and living out of a suitcase in random places.

I am pretty new to the community, but even before I joined the website I hosted friends from all over the States and all over the world on my couch in Chicago. I also sometimes listed my apartment and futon on Airbnb before, so I know how difficult yet fulfilling having guests can be. Really thankful to everyone and anyone who allows me to spend time in their home and I'd love to repay the opportunity when I settle down.

Interests

My interests include reading, writing, history, and astronomy! I can bore you with facts (like did you know that when the great pyramids of Giza were being built, woolly mammoths still walked this planet?!)

I have a lot of other interests too, so I'm sure there will always be a conversation to be had between us. My ideal conversations are deep debates over controversial issues like GMOs and whether or not 9/11 was an inside job. I'm really flexible so I'm happy to check out a local bar or just spend a quiet night in! I love beer (the darker, the better) and my motto in life is that I'll try anything once!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all film and TV shows and books and music! Some of my favorite Spotify playlists include Bruce Springsteen, Arcade Fire, LP, Bob Dylan, Alt J, Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, Tame Impala, Moderat, Kishi Bashi, Mac DeMarco, and more.

I usually only have a chance to read when I'm on vacation, because I have to read a lot for my masters program. Currently in the middle of Swing Time by Zadie Smith.

As for movies and TV shows, I watch a LOT of Netflix. Some of my favorite shows are Parks n Rec, The Office, Twin Peaks, Game of Thrones, Freaks and Geeks, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmitt, True Detective, and more. Unpopular opinion: Westworld is not a good show. We can debate that in person, though.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveled to over 40 countries :) too many to add to the list now lol

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a certified English teacher and also swim teacher if you have a pool ;) I also know this really cool card game I can teach you! Just the one, though.

As someone who has hosted a lot of guests before, I know how annoying it is when someone doesn't clean after themselves or help out in any way. I'm really conscious of that and I try to make the host enjoy hosting :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

My passions for reading and writing, fun facts about science, great conversation, anything else you may want!
