ABOUT ME

I'm an average joe who likes to have a lot of laughs, see the world and experience as much as I can. I always say I'll try anything once and I'm always up for seeing another side of life to help me understand the world a bit better, and maybe myself too.
I take most people how I find them and find no point in lying, gossiping or back-stabbing - despite the industry in which I've nurtured my talents. I find it easy getting on with people but am not the quickest to 'share my feelings', as some have pointed out.
I'm a mad history fan and I love foreign cultures, particularly Asia, which fascinates me.

PHILOSOPHY

I think everyone is looking for their place in the sun, their heaven, and I'm no different. And the only way that is going to happen is by getting out there. So let's get out there!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't had much opportunity to participate so far as I've only just signed up and am about to set off on a six month exploration of Vietnam, Hong Kong and (hopefully) China. But I hope to be a strong part of the project in the future.
You get what you give and I've got a lot to give.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Made so many friends through CS in Vietnam, it was invaluable. The real beauty is finding people that open up their world to you and invite you into their family or circle of friends. It opens a world of opporunities and gives you real insight into a culture.

Interests

The usual: music, mad movie fan, sport (I've worked in sports journalism for a number of years). I'm not too up on technology, it leaves me a bit cold to be honest, but I do have a fondness for mp3 and mp4 gadgets at the moment.
I'm into all kinds of music, blues to classical to heavy metal to French rap. I also play the guitar to 'in front of close friends' standard. I hope to upgrade to confident one day.
I love foreign films, particularly South Korean at the moment, but I love the European auteurs and Asian dramas.
I'm really into languages. I've studied Mandarin, I'm teaching myself Vietnamese and I used to speak a bit of Japanese (very rusty). I love being able to communicate in someone else's language.
I love driving and riding motorbikes (only started in Vietnam but it's great). I know nothing about cars but I know I like how they move and sound.
I also like food ... sometimes too much which makes me thank the lord I enjoy sport. I play squash (I'm not bad, actually), tennis, badminton and football.

Music, Movies, and Books

Fave music: Sigur Ros, Belle and Sebastian, Smashing Pumpkins, Lambchop, Aphex Twin, Yann Tiersen, Decemberists and The Shins.
Fave films: The Fisher King, King Pin, Airplane, Infernal Affairs, Hero, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Downfall, Devils on the Doorstep.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Amazing's a strong word. I don't think I've done anything truly amazing yet. People who cure illnesses or fight for a just cause do amazing things, I just live my life the best I can.

Teach, Learn, Share

Happy to teach English or guitar. I'm also great at public relations and spinning situations from negative into positive.
I'm a very good designer, graphically and typographically after many years in the newspaper industry.
I can also find a sex scene in an old Mills and Boon novel in 10 seconds. It's quite a skill.

Countries I’ve Visited
