About Me

I've been lucky enough to experience backpacking through Western Europe, much of S.E. Asia, USA and Yucitan Mexico. I feel at home with a backpack on and talking about travel experiences. Use CS actively first time last year and some of my best experiences in USA were through meeting couch surfers.

Really enjoy my job as a Physio, being in Newman have a good range of work and also volunteer as an Ambulance Officer.

For physical activity, I enjoy: hiking; swimming; tennis; golf; dancing (esp. salsa).

I also enjoy cooking and eating all sorts of food, especially seafood, spicy (Indian, Thai, Mexican), but will try anything. I enjoy a good IPA, red or white wine.

I also enjoy board games, backgammon, scrabble, boggle (with a habit of making up words) and poker.

Hoping that I can meet like minded life explorers along lifes journey, and mainly on couch surfing to get to know people and get the best out of local experiences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The opportunity to meet like minded people. I was fairly inactive with CS since I opened my acc in 2010, but lucky enoughto meet and stay with some really friendly CS friends in USA in 2018. .
In my first backpacking holiday, before the internet/social media/FB (showing my age here), sitting at a table in a backpackers the only options were to read a book or talk to your fellow traveler and meeting people appeared so much easier. I really enjoyed that interaction, and I hope CS opens the doors to meet people and help make my solo travel much more enjoyable. Happy to do what I can to help fellow backpackers.

Interests

Travel (that's a no brainer on this site): I enjoy hiking, hitting the beach, exploring cities and getting to know different cultures in my travels. Dinagyan Festival (profile photo) was a great travelling experience.

Food/Cooking: pretty handy in the kitchen, particularly spicy food like Thai, Indian or Mexican, starting from fresh and all natural ingredients.

I have done a bit of social dancing lessons here and there, still a novice, but have the ability to dance sober.

I like live music and prefer the pub scene to clubs, but more into chilling and beach or outdoors. I like a social drink, mostly IPA or wine. Not into other recreational drugs.

Music, Movies, and Books

Watching sports: AFL (Sydney Swans); Rugby (esp. if Wallabies playing)
In no particular order, tv favourites: Arrested Development; Breaking Bad; Dexter; Scrubs; Game of Thrones
Movies: too many to list, I like sci-fi, suspense, action and comedies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As far as travels go, Kokoda Track was awesome, and tops my list in travel experiences: an 8 day trek following in the footsteps of the Australian Soldiers (Heroes) of WWII. The tour took in some awesome scenery, it was hard work tracking through mud and rain every day. The most amazing part was having a guide who was passionate about taking the time to provide some history lessons of the brave soldiers (Aussie Heroes) that helped save PNG and ultimately prevented Japan attacking Australia during WWII.

Choosing to focus my work as a physio in the area of paediatric disability services, working with clients with significant neurological conditions (mostly Cerebral Palsy) is a massively rewarding life choice. I regularly get inspired by the drive my clients have, and honoured by the opportunity to work closely with families to improve their quality of life. With this experience, I got to volunteer 1 month at CRIT Merida working teaching and learning from paeds physios in Mexico, which is another highlight in my travels.

Teach, Learn, Share

If your a health care worker happy to share my knowledge (10 years as a remedial masseur, Sports Science degree and now about 10 years as a PT, mostly Paediatric but was also a PT for a football club for 5 years) and in Newman a lot of community based outreach work.

I am happy to talk about my past travels and life experiences, and eager to learn about Central and South America, so its a good chance to relive some travels if you are keen to share.

I can teach you how to make restaurant quality Thai dishes.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversation, I am clean and very respectful, and hopefully with enough common interests we can share an enjoyable time together.

Living in Hospital accommodation so can't gaurantee a couch, depends on timing.
