About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To change the way people think about living and supporting their communities!

ABOUT ME

Soccer nut. Humanist. Food Not Bombs. Realtor. Homebrewer and mixologist. Gluten-free (Celiac). I enjoy listening to music of all forms but country and metal. But I really enjoy meeting new people.

If you ever want a tour around Moscow, I can do that at the least! And probably show you some homes too!

PHILOSOPHY

Respect others and take care of yourself. Value others' opinions. Ask why.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I like travelling and finding couchsurfing hosts so that I can immerse myself in a different culture while getting a culture-rich, hands-on travel experience! The sky is the limit with my travel goals.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couchsurfed in Seattle on two occasions with different hosts and had powerful, memorable experiences with both of them. I also couchsurfed down in Quito, Ecuador for a week! My hosts there were fantastic; I went hiking at 12,000 ft with one of them! Couchsurfing has changed the way the most traveled of people should be viewed. People who have traveled abroad and have lived in different countries have a common theme: they're great storytellers and know more about societies and their differences than anyone. Traveling is knowledge, friends!

Interests

Soccer, education, listening to music, hanging out with friends, camping, geocaching, hiking, homebrewing, mixology, DIY projects, futsal (indoor soccer), concerts.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything with Will Ferrell. Pineapple Express is great, as is Napoleon Dynamite. Anything made by Quentin Tarantino is astonishingly good.

I really like MGMT, Arcade Fire, Foster the People, Coldplay, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, deadmau5, and Empire of the Sun, but I'll definitely listen to some classic rock (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Queen, the list goes on) when I'm in the mood.

Cooking Gluten Free is so fun and such an exploration. I was diagnosed with Celiac in January 2018, so it's quite a dietary journey.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On a drive to Bellingham from my hometown, Moscow, ID, I saw a lake that was only half-frozen over, with what looked like steam rising from the water as the snow-covered mini-mountain filled the space in the distance. It was the moment I realized how beautiful nature really is.

I've been skinny dipping and streaking multiple times, which, in my book makes me a traveling expert in the Pacific Northwest. Oh, and I've performed the "Tanto, Jump On It" dance in front of hundreds of people, and played guitar when I was just a boy in front of many others.

I've scored goals. Many goals.

I've stood on the skydeck of Chicago's Willis Tower.

Ate an entire 12-egg omelet in one sitting. Yeah... like I said, I like food.

Led a youth soccer team to a nearly undefeated season (lost on the last day!).

Participated in Model United Nations and debate conferences.

Saw Manchester United play the Seattle Sounders, a game that had Wayne Rooney scoring a hat-trick off the bench.

Got accepted into a NASA-sponsored science camp where I traveled to NASA Ames Space Center and toured restricted areas of the facility.

Went solo on a trip to Seattle for Bumbershoot 2013, ended up meeting 30-40 different, fantastic people, drove 6 hours with people I'd just met as they got in my car, couchsurfed with a guy I'd barely talked to (and it was grrrrrreat!), and saw some unforgettable concert performances, all ending with a 6-hour overnight drive after a deafening Bassnectar performance. The whole experience as a whole? Absolutely unforgettable.

I lived along the Cuyabeno River for four days in Northeast Ecuador and stayed in Jamu Lodge. I had a jungle experience in which I saw a pink dolphin, seven different types of monkeys, two baby anacondas, three caymans, the most colorful parrot I've ever seen, fresh yuca tortillas from scratch, met an indigenous tribe (Siona) and shaman, I blew through a blow gun, and even swam among the piranhas and cayman!

After that, I spent more time in Quito and then went ziplining and bridge jumping (bungee) in Banos! I then went caving and Tena, Mitad del Mundo monument and nearby Intinan museum, sipped coca tea while eating delicious $1.50 empanadas con queso. I went to Otavalo and watched the Champions' Legue final there, as purchased a bargain's worth of handmade specialty goods. I use them at my apartment today; they're wonderful.

I also visited the emergency room for my first time while I was in Quito due to dehydration, caused by a nasty bacteria that gave me the worst stomach problems. The healthcare was quite good, and I was happy with the medical bill too, to say the least. I left the hospital on a diet of Pedialyte, homemade chicken noodle soup, toast, and apples for three days. It was a tough, but quite positive experience overall. OH, and I ate cuy (guinea pig). It was tasty!

Traveling to Ecuador for two and a half weeks was the most incredible, breathtaking, yet challenging experience I've ever had. It was full of adventure, language challenges (and fast learning :)), great traditional meals, memorable people, long walks in downtown Quito, and sunny, but cool days with moments of rain.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can...
teach you how to build a potato cannon

talk homebrewing and beer like there's no tomorrow (I know, a celiac homebrewer...)

play a couple of tunes on the guitar

discuss religion (even though I do not go to church and am affiliated with no religion)

create glorious food of any kind (though I'm always open to new foods you could show me!)

show you some soccer tricks

discuss literally anything and everything about the game of soccer, from players to clubs to styles of play to the world cup

show you how to make some drinks :)

Share business advice

I'd love to learn some more cooking techniques and recipe ideas, anything new about homebrewing, hear some new/different music, or hear about your hobbies. In general, I like to learn new stuff. Fascinate me! Tell me stories!

What I Can Share with Hosts

A own a very long, large, comfortable couch. I am 5' 10" and can comfortably lay down with a good amount of leg room. It's great!

Awesome breakfast. Seriously awesome breakfast. I will make anything for you if you let me bring some ingredients and share items :)

And lots of local advice on Moscow. I've lived here my entire life.

Vehicle transportation, depending on my work schedule. I'd be quite welcoming.
