I’m Sahar, someone shaped by movement, distance, and the kindness of strangers. An international student originally from Afghanistan currently studying in the United States. My journey has taken me through different countries and cultures, and those experiences have shaped me into someone who deeply values connection, kindness, and shared stories. I’m studying accounting and finance at the University of Minnesota. Outside of academics, I enjoy meaningful conversations, learning about how people live in different parts of the world, and exchanging perspectives over coffee or a walk around the city.

I found Couchsurfing through one of my friends, and I found it very valuable to connect, learn, and build small but meaningful human connections. I’m always happy to listen, help when I can, and share stories from my culture and experiences, as well as learn about other cultures.

My favorite song is Roses by Jenna Rain. Alexander Rybak is my favorite artist, and I love all his songs. I also like 90s music, especially the band Modern Talking. When I read, I prefer listening to piano music.
My favorite movies are Freedom Writers, On the Basis of Sex, 12 Years a Slave, and Hidden Figures.
My favorite books are Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl, Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis, and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
