My mission, should I choose to accept it, is to travel Europe visiting maritime and nautically significant places. And to just generally be happy!

ABOUT ME

Hi Folks, am a couch surfer because I'm really impressed with its manifesto and if we're all likeminded folk then how much fun will we all have, eh? I'm a tall ship sailor (not professionally unfortunately... yet) and a train (in particular steam train) nut, and enjoy mooching around Europe in the summertimes to travel on trains, visit ships and museums and locations of historical significance. I'm also a live music fan, from gigs to symphony orchestra concerts to festivals.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Not much lately as I can't much host where I'm living, and we often have friends staying too. I seem to have an internal friend network couchsurfing thing going on that always keeps our visitor book well stocked up, haha. But happy to help out others here with advice. I've also met some of my best mates from around the world surfing, love it.

Sailing tall ships, all things historical and nautical. Train travel. Music, travelling, meeting and sharing fun times with easygoing folk.

Música, películas y libros

Oh the Master & Commander series by Patrick O'Brian. And Hornblower of course. But I assure you there's more to me than that. Music is a hard one. I love cheap classical music concerts. When I lived and had a car here in the UK back in 97/98 (holy cow, that's a decade ago!!) I used to drive to as many heritage houses as I could that put on outdoor symphony concerts. Marvellous! And of course I love my rock, and also latin influenced music to get me on the dance floor, most notably Cat Empire from Melbs.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Something I'm quite proud of having been a part of, although it was by complete accident really (just right place at right time), was being in the Dili All Stars who wrote and recorded the anthem Liberdade back in '99 for the East Timorese independence. It was a smash over there and we travelled to Dili for the Tour of Duty concert and performed it and our other tunes, many traditional Timorese. Some of our band members were timorese who had not returned home for many years. It was quite moving watching them kiss the ground as we got off the army herc into Dili.
Sailing too - minus the sea sickness. Mind you, being sea sick out in the open ocean for over a week is pretty bleedin' amazing too. And I live to tell the tale!
