Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

To journey on and on and on and on...without stopping...

ABOUT ME

Many friends and familiar people call me Bogs. People at home call me Kim. Many acquaintances would call me Juro. Meh.

Composer and musician. Just finished my Masters degree in some university out there. Had classical piano training during high school. I mainly compose experimental stuff...not too keen on composing pop songs anyway.

I may be funny and crazy sometimes, depending if I really feel comfortable with people around. No-nonsense conversations are very much welcome as well. For new acquaintances, I may pass as being quiet and reserved, but I always want long-term relationships with people so if you get to hang around, you'll really get to see the other side of me.

Loves God. I am a Christian.

PHILOSOPHY

Living a life set by God is an exciting thing to hold on to.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is a good way to meet people while traveling. I've had some surfing experiences already before joining CS but my first "official" couch surfing was when i traveled to Tel Aviv, Israel. Stayed overnight with a CS member. Experiencing the hospitality of different people really makes one very grateful about the joys of living.

Intereses

Making music is my main interest but my tastes are peculiar. I don't engage much with what's mainstream (and even with the indie genres) except in my church work. I do engage in experimental stuff. Yes, I've taught music in a university and in private as well, and I am a composer/musician.

I spend time in the net, surfing and surfing and reading on things. But I do make time in doing my swimming and running workout routines to keep me in shape. If anybody is qualified and willing to coach me in these, I'm game!

I love learning languages!! Right now I'm casually dealing with Bahasa Indonesia and also French (given that I used to live in Francophone Canada).

Loud partying is not my thing. I would prefer hanging out at some place with the company of few friends and talk and laugh and whatever else. Any engaging activity will do but definitely not loud partying and not with crowds.

Loves exploring things usually by myself. When I travel, I prefer going out by myself or with minimum trustworthy company. But if you will take me on a tour around your place, I would be happy with it!

Loves to learn about culture and about differences among peoples. Since coming to Canada as a Southeast Asian, I developed an appreciation to the fact that people have their own individual and collective notions of identity. Don't be afraid to share your lives and thoughts, guys and gals! I'm all ears.

Oh yeah, walking is my thing! Going outdoors! Even for just a walking tour around.

Algo increíble que he hecho

- visited Borobodur temple in Indonesia with friends last 2009. even just from afar, i was like, "oh my, this is BIGGGGGG!"

- explored Malangaan Cave in San Rafael, Bulacan, Philippines. i was wearing flipflops and didn't expect that (steep) rock climbing will be a part of the trail. I eventually braved the trail with muddy, slippery footwear (good thing they didn't break) and a fragile iPod (for video) which made things much more difficult but fun.

- in Bandung, i rode in a motorcycle with a friend of mine with the grogginess of a sleepless airplane traveler who just arrived. throughout the long ride i was on the brink of falling asleep. very dangerous!

- participated in a very solemn and sacred ritual in Yogyakarta during "malam satu Suro" (Javanese New Year's Eve). walked the longest walk i've ever done (about 2 hours of faster-than-moderate walking)!

Enseña, aprende, comparte

"Want to learn much about a place? Walk through it."

I have taught music theory and keyboard playing as a profession. If you don't know anything about music, I could share what I know with you.
