About Me
Hi, I'm Sakaya and though I got an Indian name from my dad's side of the family, I'm of French Nationality. 🇫🇷🇮🇳
I worked for a year in Paris as an engineer 🧑🏽💻 but I quickly ran into issues with my manager and ended up quitting in July 2025. I then left to work as a project coordinator in a big NGO/School in Cambodia 🇰🇭 called PSE (look it up, it's pretty cool!). It gave me the opportunity to reflect, learn and grow in many ways. I am extremely grateful for my time in PSE.
My contract ended in early March 2026, and now my goal is to go back to France without taking a plane (well as long as I can safely do so, I might take a plane from Kazakhstan to Georgia due to geopolitical conflicts). While I was at it, I decided to travel around Asia !
Now that you know about why I'm traveling and how I got here, a little more about myself! ✌🏽
I would humbly say that I’m a very chill and easy-going yet responsible person, that adapts to circumstances pretty well. I'll very often agree with your crazy last minute plans! I'm very curious and always eager to learn, especially now that I'm exposed to so many different ideas, concepts and cultures. I've been living with roommates for a while now, so I’m used to living with other people and shared spaces. I would say my best qualities are my curiosity for people and cultures and my sense of humour.
Conversations about life, understanding how other people see the world, learning about other cultures and sharing a good laugh truly are the pillars of my idea of a perfect trip! 🙏🏽
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I think there are many cultural aspects of a society that are hard to understand unless you can experience the tiniest bit of daily life. Also, I love meeting people and making friends. I believe even someone you have known for a few days can deeply affect your life! I'll host people once I settle down! Also, I've actually done couchsurfing before but it was on my friend's account.
Interests
I like to learn many things but I'm not an expert in anything. Like I'm garbage at photography, badminton and basketball. All that matters to me is:
- am I having fun (sports, manga, etc) ?
- am I left with good memories (video editing, stand-up comedy)?
- do I grow from it (learning, meeting people, etc)?
I generally think that being extremely passionate about anything is one of the best traits people can have.
- photography
- diy
- movies
- video games
- woodworking
- basketball
- badminton
- history
- cultural immersion
- manga
- friendship
- videography
- learning new things
- stand up comedy
- video editing
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Porter Robinson, Good Kid, bbno$
Books: uh I don't really read books but Goodnight Punpun, Frieren and 20th century boys are mangas I really like.
Films: Monster, Shoplifters, Lalaland, Spiderverse movies.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Going to Japan with my childhood friend was probably the funniest, messiest most stupid month of my life.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can probably show you the basics of video editing, though again I'm no expert.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can cook a few dishes I would do before going to work and when sharing meals with my roommates. Of course I'll help with housework and groceries!
