Chi sono

I am an on-and-off journalist though a lot of times I write just to organize my thoughts. I like talking and listening which might seem a bit of a contradiction. I enjoy being with people who aren't cynical about the world and take it for what it has to offer. I love talking as well as listening, which might sound as a contradiction, but isn't.

The smell of old books, looking out at the ocean, walking through pine forests, pepperoni sandwiches, foreign languages, looking out at the sky and spotting a planet, listening to an opera on shortwave radio are some of the things that make me very very happy.

Perché sono iscritto su Couchsurfing

I've spent most of the last 6 years hitchhiking around the world and living on the road and out of a backpack. The generosity of complete strangers and the opportunity of meeting some astonishingly amazing people is what has made it all worthwhile.

Through Couchsurfing, I'd love to meet other like-minded travelers and hear their stories.

Interessi

I travel mainly to eat and talk to new people. I'd rather live in one place for 30 days than travel 30 places in a day. If a town has a great bookshop, a good pub, a local band, some narrow cobbled lanes and a talkative 75-year-old native, I'd gladly stay there awhile. Northern Bohemia and the Upper Himalayas are my favourites among the various places I have lived in. My favourite cities are Prague and Hong Kong.

Musica, film e libri

Books: Subjects that interest me include opportunity cost, 20th Century history, statistical inference, beer brewing, ancient architecture, visual semiotics, macroeconomics, contemporary political theory and astronomy.
Read far too much to be able to really list out 'favourites' but I'll just write down the first few names I can see on my bookshelf from where I'm sitting: The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, The Fires of Spring + The Drifters both by James Michener, On the Road by Jack Kerouac, The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway, The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck, A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, Civilisation by Niall Ferguson and The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins

Movies: Twelve Angry Men, Persepolis, Children of Heaven, Cinema Paradiso, The Yellow Sea, Chungking Express, Philadelphia, Infernal Affairs, Forrest Gump, Bicycle Thieves, The Lord of the Rings, Snatch, Schindler's List, Goodwill Hunting, Krótki film o miłości, The Man Who Would be King, The Great Escape, Taxi Driver, Little Miss Sunshine

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

Reporting from a war zone, hitchhiking across countries, working on farms, sleeping homeless in a park over weeks, bungee jumping at 2am, and traveling 6000 miles for love are among the few silly but worthwhile things I've done in my life.

Insegna, impara, condividi

I can teach you to cook a mean pasta bolognese! :) I'm also an urban history buff and love to explore the nooks and crannies of whatever city I'm living in. I'd be happy to take you on a walking/cycling tour with pit stops at hole-in-the-wall eating places that are famous but not-so-famous. I also love sharing stories in case you're someone that likes listening to tales of remarkable people and places.

I love learning languages and would be happy to learn a few phrases and words from you. I'm also extremely curious about how people across the world are reacting to changes happening in their world and love to hear opinions fro literally everyone!

Cosa posso offrire ai padroni di casa

My apartment is chill and super comfortable. You get a room of your own with a king-sized bed. I can provide you with towels and bedsheets and any first-aid stuff that you'd need. I have a high speed wi-fi connection that you can feel free to use. My friends that I've met here organize a lot of barbeque parties to which you'll surely be invited :) Because, hey, who doesn't like meeting new people!!!

Also, the fridge is always stocked with beers and donuts so feel free to help yourself :)
