About Me

APPRECIATE IF YOU CAN READ OUR ENTIRE PROFILE BEFORE REQUESTING ANY STAY.
IF YOU DON'T READ IT, MOST LIKELY WE WILL DECLINE YOUR REQUEST

We (Joe and Sal) are a couple that relocated to Portugal from the USA in November 2020. As we learn more and more about the culture, people, cuisine, and wine from this beautiful country, we are enjoying the experience and are very happy to be here.

We have been together for almost 20 years and are lucky having traveled around different cities and countries, getting to meet fantastic human beings. We have lived in the USA in Chicago, Phoenix, Albuquerque, Houston, and now in Porto, Portugal. As such, we consider ourselves down to earth, unassuming, practical, and laid back.

We have a very lovable Chocolate Labrador retriever named Uriel. She is most of the time well behaved and keeps us somehow active. Unfortunately, we are not party animals, as we are very early raisers, and our days usually start at 5AM. No worries! we try to be respectful and considerate with our guests, but our girl is used to our early schedule now, and as such, we try to go to bed early.

We are both foodies and enjoy great beer, wine, conversations, culture, art, and architecture. We enjoy cooking and appreciate people who like to cook and, of course, eat!

ADDITIONAL NOTES AND RULES:

* We are very selective on who we host as we provide a more personal experience. Please read our profile in full as well as reviews. If you don't have a full and detailed profile, are not a verified member, or you have no reviews, most likely, we will decline your request. Please also tell us a bit about yourself and your expectations while visiting on your request. What food you like? Do you drink coffee? Do you drink? Etc.

* We do not smoke, nor do or accept drugs, and that is a big NO NO for us if one of our guests will bring drugs to our house. We have zero tolerance as we aim to create a safe and clean environment in which everybody feels welcome as such we are very trustworthy; when you come to our house you can relax, know that you have some people to rely on and we expect the same in return.

* We understand that technology is important in our lives, and we respect that. However, if you are having a meal or conversation with us, please forget about your phone or computer and enjoy the experience. It is plain disrespecful to check your phone while having any conversation or meal.

* COVID-19 We are both fully vaccinated and expect you to have been fully vaccinated at least 3 weeks prior to your visit.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We all have been there in which we wanted to visit places but we do not have enough money to do so. Housing is expensive these days, so we want to help a little bit to fellow travelers by providing a positive experience staying in a safe and clean place when visiting our city, while sharing life and stories together as a way to meet interesting people and maybe make long time friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

Regarding music we have an eclectic mixed taste that range from Pop to Classical music.
About movies we love comedy and romantic comedy (Ever After, Legally Blonde, etc) we also like superhero movies (DC Fans) and Mystery/Thriller (Type of Six Sense)
In books we read a lot of business related material and some novels such as Sidney Sheldon, Anne Rice, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We both snorkeled and dive on the great barrier reef in Australia, an amazing experience that hopefully we will get to repeat.
Equally impressive was to explore the Wadi Musa in Jordan and make our way to Petra, not only visiting the Treasury but the monastery. It was all breath taking.

Teach, Learn, Share

We have traveled quite some, so we know how stressful travel can be, so we intent to provide a positive experience while hosting in our place or while you host us. When visiting houses we like to help, cook and clean. We are hands on type of guys!

What I Can Share with Hosts

We love to help when we are visiting somebody house, so we will be very participative and helpful assisting you as much as we can, as we truly appreciate opening the doors of your house for us. Love to cook and share meals. We can cook pretty much every type of food, but Italian and Mexican are for sure our specialty.
