About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learning. About everything.

ABOUT ME

Salama! I'm Kate, and right now I'm WWOOFing around the Four Corners region! So unfortunately I'm unable to host any surfers at the moment, though I'd still love to meet folks in the CS community. I am currently working at a chile farm in Chimayo, New Mexico (between Santa Fe and Taos) and learning all kinds of things, from irrigating fields with acequias (awesome ancient canals) to trimming and filing horses' hooves!

I just finished up undergrad in Indiana, followed by an 8-month internship with the Bureau of Land Management in Buffalo, Wyoming - a very different setting than I've ever experienced before, but a really cool town in a beautiful part of the country.

I love learning languages - I've been learning French for several years, I picked up a little Malagasy during a semester abroad in Madagascar, and I'm currently trying out Chinese. I know random phrases in Spanish, German, Russian, Thai, Creole, and Shona, and my goal is to be able to hold basic conversations in five languages by the time I'm 25.

I'm hoping to travel a ton, sooner rather than later, and I think that one day I'd like to work for a community-based conservation organization in a place like Nepal, or maybe start a study abroad farm in South America. Until then, I want to try out as many different countries, cultures, foods, jobs, and ways of life as possible.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had some amazing experiences as I surfed my way from Missouri to Wyoming, hosted many wonderful people last summer in Buffalo, and I'm meeting more great CS hosts as I travel the west!

Interests

Cooking! (and learning how to cook from people who have more of a knack for it than me), traveling, getting lost in fascinating books, discovering new musicians, playing the viola and ukulele and steel drums, making collages (I make some pretty nice collaged birthday cards), and anything involving the outdoors. I also really like school.... there's something about being a part of the academic community that just feels satisfying. I love being surrounded by people who constantly push me to think more critically and challenge my beliefs. It's also great that the primary objective is to learn, and really nothing else. I only just graduated from college and I miss it already.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have kind of high standards for movies but I especially enjoy anything that can make me laugh like an idiot, and I have lesser standards for music but I prefer songs that make me dance like a lunatic. And I devour books. All books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

At a village festival in Faux Cap, Madagascar, I did the macarena in front of about 300 people.
