Overview
About Me
While I much prefer to talk about our own life journeys in person, I can tell you I have always been a super adventurous, thrill seeking soul pushing boundaries in my own life intellectually, physically or spiritually. I'm a lover of experiences, and of sharing experiences with others to make wonderful stories I can laugh at when I'm old. I'm also a fairly altruistic person and most of my life has been involved with helping others grow and be supported when their own circumstances prevent them from being so.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
While I joined CS first as a tool for a free place to stay, I quickly realized that it was much more than that. It was an opportunity to learn about others culture and in general to promote global understanding.
I still enjoy the original principle it stood by which was "changing the world, one couch at a time"
I believe strongly in trusting others and making efforts to learn about each others culture. I'm glad a site like CS can provide the tool to make new friendships blossom. Some of my best friends I met through CS.
If someone really takes the time to navigate the community despite some of the difficulty ,it really can be a wonderful network.
Interests
Facilitating a radical network of amazing pioneering and culturally accepting types, supporting their efforts in their home countries to create amazing experiences and challenge society at large to be themselves expressively and pursue whatever their dreams may be. I do this through the Burning Man global network and with HospEx networks like Couchsurfing / BW / TR etc ..
Adventuring wherever, love to snowboard though I haven't been getting out as much recently, tasting all sorts of foods and taking my palette to plates beyond, I'm a California boy who loves the ocean and everything with it, diving, sailing, some surfing paddleboarding, swimming.. I want to kiteboard at the next spot where I can learn ..
Love to help empower others to be the best they can be, love to dance and get it out, especially if its all night somewhere tropical, always open to try everything once and experience all that this crazy planet has to offer. You might as well take a bite and enjoy it! But also supporting others/ locals as one moves around and respect the lands and seas..
In short, I love to do a lot of things, and we can chat more about it...in person!
Music, Movies, and Books
I appreciate all music and each person and groups
creation and art in general, I like most anything with a good beat. Some ones I always go back to are
Thievery Corporation, Royksopp, Jamiroquai, Daft Punk, Quantic, Bonobo, Buddha Bar, Phoenix, Björk, Faithless, Massive Attack, house music - Hans Zimmer, Swing music, international fusion beats - music moves me
Love international films and nonfiction books that challenge and grow the human spirit - favorites are Gattaca, Leon, Finding Forrester, Lone Wolf & Cub series, Baraka, departures (Japan), A Night at The Opera, Pink Panther original, Taxi, Wasabi , Akira, Philadelphia, Heat, Stargate, Contact, Fifth Element, Blade Runner. Directors I like Luc Besson, Jarmusch, Kubrick, Nolan..
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
There's a few for sure.. But the ones that stand out for me have been sailing in Mexico for months only powered by the wind, studying in Tibet for a summer, and helping serve and provide better education to my little brothers who live in the Calcutta train station in India.
Been to over 70 countries, so that's pretty amazing to most people I guess.. But I'm not one to be proud of that, it's just that I like to move ;)
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm learning everyday how to be a better person and to know myself. I try to live a life that shares love with others, but I am also learning to make sure I love and take care of myself when I do.
I can probably help you become a more culturally conscious person by sharing how I view the world through my anthropological lens and how to be more of a global citizen rather than a passing traveler/tourist. We all begin a bit like tourists, but all our travels can be that much more deeper and richer if we understand the environments we travel to.
I can also probably share with you how to live on this planet on a budget or free for a long time even though I don’t do much free nomadic travel these days
What I Can Share with Hosts
()
Personally I think it should be a surprise what a guest can give a host. The expectations of every host/guest relationship should include intentions to socialize and learn about each other and share with an open mind. And being open to local adventures with your host
