About Me

My name is Saldiam (Sal-dEE-am) Rolando Barillas! My name means Sal (salud/health), Di (dinero/money), Am (amor/love). I am currently a Masters Student at California State University, Fullerton studying Kinesiology. I am a go with the flow type of person who never had an opportunity to travel previous to 24 years of age! My first flight was summer of 2014 when I was 24 years old to Seattle, WA and I have decided to save and travel every summer. In two short years I've visited 15 different countries!! I think I'm doing this right! Haha.

My parents came here from Guatemala in the mid 80's and have been here ever since. I am the first in my family to make it into graduate school! I like to think myself as friendly, outgoing, and funny! I love jokes and have a great sense of humor. I am clean, but not OCD crazy about cleaning.

I really wish to travel the world and meet people from all different cultures. I love people and talking to them as well. Learning about peoples stories gives me a fulfillment of connectedness! I also think I tell very good stories as well. I love to go out both nightlife and outdoors. Adventure is my game!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet people and have quality conversations!

I also like to be a part of groups and getting to know locals the way they know their city/town. I love Los Angeles and feel I can give good stories, history, museums, and tour of my city. Couchsurfing would hopefully allow me to find people to return the same of their city!

Interests

I love listening to music, playing computer video games (when I have the time), exploring (city & nature), night life, drinking wine, talking, telling jokes, learning about history, sharing stories, and anything that has to do with beaches or art!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Anything!!
Movies: Comedies hands down! I love to laugh more than anything. Also, historical movies are great as well!
Books: To be honest, I am very bad at finishing books. I hope that with travel and age I get better, but the best books I have read usually tend to be history books.... haha. Again, I love stories! Especially good true ones!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Making it into graduate school when neither of my parents had college experience and only one had middle school (or higher) experience is one of my biggest feats! Also, I am currently in my second year remission of testicular cancer! Besides that I guess I can say I have lectured at the university level at the age of 25!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to teach about the body! How it works, physiologically, mechanically, chemically, neurologically, and spiritually! As a Kinesiology student I usually talk a lot about strength and conditioning, nutrition and rehabilitation practices to most people.

I love to learn about history, spirituality, and culture! Growing up with learning about my own family history and culture gave my lots of insights of where I am from and what my family has seen or been through! The culture has allowed me to Identify my self with different morals that I hold true! I love learning about spirituality because its so complex and awesome!

Sharing stories and knowledge is my favorite!

I've recently gotten into photography as well and would definitely leave you with one of my photos!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook a nice dinner. I will share knowledge about weight training, nutrition, and muscle/injury therapy practices! I can also share knowledge about southern California and Las Vegas! I can share stories about myself and make people laugh! I am always a good time looking for a good adventure and love to listen to peoples stories! I can give some introductory lessons on speaking Spanish too! And I'll probably leave one of my photos!
