About Me
Saleem Samad, is an Ashoka Fellow (USA) for agenda-setting journalism in 1991 and also recipient of Hellman-Hammett Award by New York based Human Rights Watch (HRW), an award-winning investigative reporter for more than 40 years.
He was stringer for prestigious TIME, India Today and Outlook magazines. Presently he is correspondent for a Paris based international media rights organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF). He has covered two-decade-long insurgency in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, south-east Bangladesh, the Iraq-Iran war in 1983. In 2002 he along with two foreign journalists was arrested for sedition and tortured for working with the British TV channel. Later the security agency forced him go into exile in 2004. After six years in exile in Canada, he returned to Bangladesh in February 2010.
