About Me

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My pleasures in life are stories, people and places. So couchsurfing has it all :)

When I am not physically overseas, I get to travel through the stories of my hosts. I love seeing life through other eyes than mine and learn about the various ways people do life. I have made great friendships through this website and that is amazing.

I usually get questions about what to visit in Meknes so here I will provide a list of must sees

Bouinania Medrassa

10 centuriea old school in Meknes Medina with beautiful North African Islamic architecture with a mesmerising rooftop view.

Dar Ljamai

Typical Moroccan Riad turned into the national museum of music with beautiful courtyard and music playing. Free entry on fridays and 30% discount upon showing train ticket to Meknes. The museum is closed on Tuesdays

Royal horse Stables:

17th century open air staples where the Sultan who ruled Morocco kep more than 1000 horses. https://maps.app.goo.gl/Pi7vE1Eau1tMZd8q8

Mausolem of the Sultan

If you are curious about who built Meknes, the hundred kilometeres walls surrounding it and other parts of Morocco as the Kasbah of Rabat, here you will find where the Sultan Moulay Ismail rests. Beautiful architecture with Moroccan tiles, details and high ceilings that is definitely instagramable.

***FOOD & VIEWS ***
For local Meknassi food I suggest you try Frangipan that is a pastry filled with almond stuffing sold in this is old bakery

Also get a take away Maakouda sandwich that Meknes is famous for. A friend potato ball with chili sauce and olives.

Try some olives in the market near Lahdim square as Meknes is known for olives and olive oil as it is the biggest producer of olives in Morocco. You can also try some traditional sweets from the market

To watch a great sunset, walk to Bella Citta coffeshop and enjoy a beautiful sunset view over the medina of Meknes or walk in the medina alleys and find your way to Selma riad rooftop.
