CURRENT MISSION
To cast off the bowlines. Explore, Dream, Discover.
ABOUT ME
I grew up in the sunny, idyllic town of Santa Barbara. Here I gained a deep appreciation for the beaches and hills of California. Of course after a while I felt a strong desire to leave my hometown, and I am fortunate to have been able to travel a good deal, mostly in Asia. I learned Chinese and Spanish. Since then I have studied sustainable agriculture and have become fascinated with gardening and permaaculture, as well as hiking and learning native plants. Since graduating college I have lived and worked at the Grand Canyon, several places in California, and in Oregon. I am now back in Santa Barbara and loving it. I find everything about the natural world fascinating. I also enjoy good music, cooking, fermenting (sauerkraut and beer), writing, and meditation.
I am laid back, generally quiet, and respectful.
PHILOSOPHY
I have always thought that a better world is possible, and the best way to realize it is to live as if its already here. I think that couchsurfing is a great example of this.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have couchsurfed in the past in China and New Zealand. I now plan on hosting.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I couchsurfed China, New Zealand, and once in Laos. It was a great way to travel. It is great to meet someone who lives in the area and who can give you advice about what to do, where to go, etc. I met some very interesting people and overall it was usually much better than hostels.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Traveled from Shanghai to Bangkok over land. Learned Mandarin.
Hiked across the Grand Canyon.
Lived by myself for a month outside a town of 200 people in the desert.
Co-organized (and tied for first in) a macaroni and cheese competition.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know a lot about plants and gardening. I also have a lot of obscure, random knowledge. I love learning about new dishes and cooking with new ingredients.
