About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel, live, work and volunteer in South East Asia.

ABOUT ME

Where to begin...we are both 4th generation South Australian, been married for 10 years and we are best mates. Although neither of us have been exposed to travel growing up, we've always been deeply curious. Our big travel adventures began in 2009 when we made a decision to sell our stuff including our house and car, to travel and work overseas. Since then, we’ve visited over 25 countries on 4 continents and couch surfed along the way, creating the best memories of our lives so far. Returning to Australia after long term travel, we wanted to create an alternative life of simplicity, adventure and one where we didn't have to rely on the income from a 9-5 job. It wasn't long before the daily grind got the better of us though and we had no time or creative energy to create the life we desperately wanted. We've taken drastic measures and for the second time we have quit our jobs, sold everything and this time we are embarking on a quest to live in South East Asia. We want to break out of the confined box we have found ourselves in and help others do the same. We left Oz in Nov 2013 and plan to travel for a few months before we find a place to live so we can experiment with building income online. We also have a passion to help people in need and plan to volunteer our time abroad. You can find out more about what we are doing by connecting with our facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/lifeagainstthegrain

PHILOSOPHY

Live like you have no fear! Laugh often. Love much. Live generously. Fail your way to success. Jump off the cliff and build your wings on the way down. Joy comes through owning less.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We've been out of the CS loop for a little while, mostly because our landlords lived on the same property and weren't so keen on the idea.

Before that though, we had the opportunity to host and be hosted by some great people, some of who have become lifelong friends. The mission of this program is inspiring and the experiences we've had have enriched our lives.

We're super-keen to get back into it and when we finally find a place to settle in SE Asia, we would plan to host again.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Each of our experiences have been different, but what we have enjoyed the most have been the sharing of stories, discovering treasures beyond the guidebooks and the generous attitude of couch surfers who have genuinely wanted to contribute postively to our cs experience. And of course the making of lifelong friends.

Interests

Some of our big interests/past times are:
Eating! Experiencing unique and exotic food and wine is one of our favourite things to do, South Australia is renown for it's wine and yep, they are extremely good!; cooking; chocolate; good belly laughs; social justice; sustainability; nature; sunshine; a good book; photography; soaking in another culture; salsa dancing; live gigs; camping; spending Summer at the beach with the esky (ice box), deck chair, BBQ, gazebo etc and a nice cold glass of wine (beer for Tim); being outdoors generally esp when the sun is out. Animals, especially dogs, so if we stay with you and you have one, great - we will spoil it silly (Sal will anyway)! Dirt bike & mountain bike riding(Tim), anything car related (Tim)
