About Me

Wandering soul in search of solid waves and pursuing my dream of becoming a Physical Therapist!

I grew up in rural Chesapeake, VA essentially spending every day outside with my siblings and learning a love of the ocean with weekend trips to Sandbridge. Around my 10th birthday, we moved to nearby Virginia Beach where I attended middle and high school and graduated in 2010, all while growing closer to the awesome experience that is surfing. To stay by the coast, I attended UNC-Wilmington for my further education, gaining a degree in Exercise Science. After graduating, I loaded my car with all my possessions and took a cross country trip where I lived in Monterey, CA for 6 months before coming back home to VB. Currently I am living back at home, looking for work, and figuring out the next step!

I have a medium-sized shepard/lab mix mutt named Kawa who is my closest friend and companion. I've had her since she was 8 weeks old and I take her everywhere I can with me.

My personal philosophy and religion revolves around a variety of different understandings but most significantly around the beauty of this whole journey and experience of life we all find ourselves on. I was raised Christian, and while I still hold a strong Christian faith, I've recently found a love for an open-ended approach to my belief system that includes Zen, Toltec, and other teachings. I have found my most significant spiritual connection in the ocean, and I definitely believe that surfing is the spiritual forum I'm most excited to belong in.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing because I am always looking to establish connections in new places and eventually offer the opportunity to host guests once I find the appropriate place to welcome them.

Interests

Surfing, cycling, yoga, backpacking, triathlon, cooking, all types of art and music, gardening.. the list could go on and on.

I love to build things - whether it be simple pieces of wire-wrapped jewelry or full-on custom surfboards, I am constantly looking for the chance to build something. I keep a pretty solid tool-box with me in my car and I love the spontaneous need for the right tool and the chance to help someone out.

I've been playing guitar for the past ten years or so and I love breaking out the 6 string for good jams. I dream of one day living in a place where I can ride my bike everywhere, I usually carry at least one bike with me when I go on my adventures.

Music, Movies, and Books

So many to list!

In a nutshell, my musical tastes include everything from classic rock to classical, reggae to bluegrass. Some of my favorite artists these days include Punch Brothers, The Alabama Shakes, Young the Giant, the Infamous Stringdusters, Dangermuffin, The Bees, and so many more. As long as it's thoughtful, I can dig it!

I try to avoid as much screen time as possible so I don't watch a lot of movies and can't recall the ones that really stuck out to me!

My favorite books include One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest, The Great Gatsby, and many more. I just recently finished one called the Four Agreements, it certainly made the list.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd love the opportunity to teach/learn/share within any of my miscellaneous interests and pursuits! I'm big into surfing as you have probably read by now, and I carry a quiver of boards with me most everywhere I travel. I've built about 50 surfboards over the past few years and worked at ding repair shops in NC and CA. I love to cook and consider myself very handy in the kitchen, and I make a mean green smoothie!

With a degree in Exercise Science from UNC-Wilmington, I've also developed a proficiency in personal training and lifestyle modification skills, and would love to share my knack for setting you up with a workout and nutrition plan!

In addition to any of these things, I feel that there is so much more for me to learn and share and I look forward to the opportunity to help out!
