Sobre mí

I'm a 26 year old from Melbourne, Australia, whose passions are travel, reading and writing (I have plenty of experience in all three). I'm a confident and happy personality. I enjoy partying when the situation calls for it, but more often than not am just as happy (if not moreso) to spend the night in. So far most of my travel has been through Europe - in the last two years I have spent more than a year on the continent, spending most of my time in Iceland, Finland, Hungary, Romania and The Netherlands. When I was 19 I took my first ever overseas trip to Israel on an archaeological expedition at Tell es-Safi. The trip taught me a lot about myself and what I wanted from life, so now I make it my mission to travel wherever I can, whenever I can! I have also done a bit of travel within Australia - I spent three weeks on a road trip through Tasmania and two exploring the area north of the Daintree River in FNQ. I'm an outgoing, friendly person who loves animals (I'm vegan myself, but don't mind sharing spaces/conversation with more omnivorous types). I'm not averse to more non-traditional living situations and lifestyles, and am very open-minded when it comes to philosophy, discussion and life in general.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

As I do most of my travelling solo, I am always looking to meet new people and make new friends! As a student I am, of course, also travelling on a budget, so Couchsurfing is the ideal way for me to be able to experience the world on a minimum wage salary while I'm still able to!
I haven't had much experience with the formal side of Couchsurfing before, but I have a widely distributed circle of friends across the world so I've had plenty of experience in that regard! :-)

Intereses

My primary interest is, of course, travel - I love the personal challenge of being on the road and experiencing what the world has to offer in a thoughtful, ethical way. When I'm done travelling I transform my journal - the notes I've made along the way - into a typed mass of about 200+ pages; when I'm travelling I am constantly absorbing, thinking and learning, so producing this at the end is always a great way to reflect on the things I've seen and done and the impact the people I have met have had on my life and my development as a person. I love meeting people from diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences!

Música, películas y libros

My favourite books are "The Inheritance of Loss" by Kiran Desai, "Independent People" by Halldór Laxness, “Everything is Illuminated” by Jonathan Safran Foer, and the collected works of Raymond Carver. I'm also a big fan of Haruki Murakami, Henry Rollins (music and writing), Kafka, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy and the classics - especially Ovid's "Metamorphoses". Not to mention that I'm a massive Harry Potter fan!
Musically I have quite a diverse palette and enjoy just about anything.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Every day when you're on the road alone - there's nothing more liberating and challenging! The knowledge that you are able to overcome life's obstacles with only yourself to rely on is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I'm a big believer in the empowerment of self-reliance and the equality of all people.
Make every day an opportunity to learn something new.
Engage with the perspectives of people who are different to yourself!

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I'm a great cook - I can make just about anything into a vegan feast! I'm also great at keeping up conversation, helping out when needed and just bringing a chilled and happy personality to the table. I also LOVE pets and can help out with cats or dogs (walking, belly rubs? you name it!) if you need me to.
I've had wide experience with travel within Europe, and would love to trade stories with people who have been elsewhere - I'm always looking for inspiration!
