About Me

My name's Sam Barna and I'm a musician and audio engineer from New York. I live and go to school at SUNY Purchase for studio production and a minor in sociology during the school year and spend my breaks at my parents house on Long Island. I'm about to depart for a four month trip through western Europe and South America and would love to meet some cool new faces along the way!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to meet more people and get a more realistic feel for each locale.

Interests

Music is my passion. I'm into mostly alternative rock and emo but enjoy just about all genres. It'd be awesome to get to know the local music scene in each city and if you know of any, I'd love to go to a show! I'm also into outdoors activities like hiking and kayaking, eating good food, working out, and reading.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm always on the hunt for new music but my mainstays are Kevin Devine and Brand New. If you're into music, we should go to a show! Some of my favorite movies are Eurotrip, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Dead Poets Society and my favorite books include Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maitenance by Robert Pirsig, 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia-Marquez, and East of Eden by John Steinbeck. I know it's cliche but I'm also all about the Harry Potter series.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Back in high school I had the oppurtunity to spend a week volunteering at a home for sick and disabled kids in Peru. The experience changed my life and I'm heading back this December. The kids are magical and if you're in or around Lima at any point, I highly recommend staying and volunteering for at least a week (they give all volunteers a place to crash and 3 meals a day!) The home is called the Hogar de Francisco de Asis in Chaclacayo, Peru. Definitely look into it!

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I'd be more than happy to teach music in any capacity that I can. I work as a swim instructor at home and would be happy to teach swimming/water safety as well.

Learn: I definitely need some help with my Spanish haha. Aside from that, I'm always interested in learning more about local food and recipes!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Conversation, music, smiles, fun, help around the house.
