About Me

They call me Sam, and I’m a traveler in training. I’m just a 22 year old guy from Phoenix, Arizona, who’s looking to push past his comfort zone and experience all that life has to offer. I have just embarked on my first solo journey, an indefinite backpacking trip through multiple continents, with the hope that I will meet some interesting people who like to have fun.

My perfect day in order: Cappuccino and Crepes-Small Hike-Book by a fireplace-Cuisine of country I’m visiting- Wine and cheese-Beers until loss of motor skills.......

Things I Want To Do In Life
— Dine at a Michelin Star restaurant
— Motorcycle through S.America
— Eat croissants in Paris
— Visit Hobbiton in NZ

Things I Wish to Learn
— Learn to Speak Spanish
— Learn to Scuba Dive
— Play Wonderwall on the Guitar

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m currently 3 weeks into my first solo backpacking trip, and while it’s been a horizon broadening, life altering, and “insert cliche here” experience, I’ve found one aspect to be sorely lacking. As I sat at the aptly named, Aussie Pub, in Riga, Latvia, knocking back pints with a group of Germans, Australians, and Brit’s, I realized that I had yet to interact with any locals. Coincidently, one of those same drinking partners recommended Couchsurfing, and here I am.

Music, Movies, and Books

I’m not a man of religion, but January 20th, is a sacred day dedicated to the Lord of The Rings trilogy. I, along with an extra large bag of salt and vinegar chips for company, will sit back and watch the three films back to back. This day is sacred, and I will allow no one interrupt the sanctity that is the combined 557 minutes of award-winning cinema. Also, anything Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson, especially Kill Bill and Moonrise Kingdom

TV: Larry David, True Blood, Sopranos, GoT

As far as books are concerned, I adore the fantasy genre, especially high fantasy. Undoubtedly, The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss is my favorite series, with A Song of Ice and Fire coming in at a close second. Some other authors I enjoy are: Joe Abercrombie, Anthony Ryan, J.D. Salinger, and J.K. Rowling, As far as non-fiction goes, Christopher Hitchens and Matt Taibbi are my go-to.

Music: The Mulan theme song, Marilyn Manson, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Glass Animals, Of Monsters and Men, Blackmill, ODESZA, Illenium, Madeon, Kid Cudi, Ice Cube, The Killers.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rode a sled down the side of the active volcano, Cerro Negro, in Leon, Nicaragua.

Skydived twice in one week.
