About Me

Hi,

Me and my girlfriend, Hayley, are currently travelling the globe in search of fun, new experiences and are looking to meet lots of locals along the way, to make the trip a much richer and more entertaining experience.

I am 35 and Hayley's 28. Before quitting our jobs to go travelling I had a marketing job with a charity called Concern Worldwide, which raised money to allow them to help in the fight against global hunger. Hayley used to work in Event Management, and a large part of her role was helping put on the London New Years Eve Fireworks for the past 5 years.

We're currently in Panama but are about to head to Colombia for 6 weeks, before heading to Peru, Argentina, Nepal, Cambodia & Vietnam.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We always said we wanted our trip around the world to be different to the 'typical' travellers experience, and Couchsurfing gives us the opportunity to make new friends and meet locals that live in the cities we're visiting and have a more authentic experience while learning about the places from people that live there.

Interests

We both love travelling and the outdoors. Sam is a mountain leader so takes any opportunity to get into the mountains and explore, and Hayley loves exploring new places, old towns and could wander down little streets, taking photos for hours.

Sam is also a bit of a physics geek and loves learning and talking about space/science. He thinks it's a really exciting time to be alive in given all we are learning about the universe.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books - The penguin lessons, Shantaram, Mr Nice, Hyperspace (Michio Kaku), Life of Pi, With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa
Movies - About time (& other romance/comedy films), Aliens, Terminator 2, The walking dead (TV series technically, but has to make this list!)
Music - Trance, Jazz, Blues, pop

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We've just spent 3 months volunteering in Nicaragua and Costa Rica where we got the opportunity to live in a remote, rural community (La Isla, Nicaragua) for nearly a month. This was an awesome experience as we really got to see the country in a way very few people are lucky enough to and get to know everyone in the community.

Teach, Learn, Share

Sam used to be a chef (many moons ago) and loves cooking for people, and Hayley makes a good washer upper!

We are both keen to learn more Spanish and are actually looking into getting some lessons while we're in Colombia. On the flip side, we're more than happy to help anyone that wants to learn/improve their English, or learn anything else from us for that matter.
