About Me

Hi! My name is Sam Genualdi and I am a musician from the Chicago area. I recently graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Contemporary Improvisation. I am interested in all kinds of music and especially in learning music from cultures outside my own! I have been awarded a 2017 Watson Fellowship to travel the globe learning music and will be traveling for 12 months starting on July 31st, 2017. I also recently released my debut album entitled 'Looking Through the Glass' which can be found on iTunes, Spotify, Soundcloud and Bandcamp. Or through my website! samgenualdi.com

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am here to make new friends along my way as I travel the globe. While music is the 'goal' of my journey, in truth I am most excited to meet all kinds of wonderful people from all kinds of beautiful places!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all kinds of music, but most recently I have been really interested in the banjo. One of my favorite artists is singer-songwriter and banjo player Abigail Washburn.

My favorite movies include many movies by Hayao Miyazaki, The Shawshank Redemption, The Big Labowski and O Brother Where Art Thou.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I created a 2-day festival of improvised music in Appleton, Wisconsin that brought together artists from all over the U.S. to perform in new and exciting contexts.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am happy to teach what I can from my knowledge of music! My primary instrument is guitar, but I also play bass, piano, banjo and sing!

I hope to learn as much as I can about the cultures that I visit. Language, cuisine, customs, art, anything!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my music, my kind spirit, and am willing to contribute in any way I can! I can cook, clean, or do anything else that needs doing! I am also good with my hands!

Countries I’ve Visited

Armenia, Brazil, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Mozambique, Peru, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, United Kingdom, Zimbabwe
