About Me

I'm a wanderlusting intellectual forever torn between my desire to learn more and my inability to sit still. While I love the classroom, my best memories and fullest learning experiences have come from travel. I thrive on my relationships and readily seek to connect with new people.

To date, I have visited 12 countries outside the United States, most of which came over ten weeks while I was living on a ship. In summer 2015, I conducted a research project in Okinawa, Japan researching the role of spirituality in stress, social support, and successful aging. The following summer, I traveled to Hikone, Japan for a language-study program.

I have (couch-)surfed in Yosemite, Vermont, and Tuscaloosa, AL. As a guest, I aim to be polite, friendly, and adaptable, and I would love to learn from you.

As a host... well, I haven't yet. Stay tuned.

"Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you are destined for.
But do not hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you are old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to make you rich."
--Cavafy, 'Ithaka'

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:
The Wheel of Time, Harry Potter, Paper Towns, Zorba the Greek

Music:
This is tricky. I don't really have one "all-time favorite" band; it's more like "this is who I'm really into ~right now" before I move on to something else a few months later. So ~right now~ it's Imagine Dragons and Lorde.

Movies:
Less tricky. Disney, Pixar, Star Wars.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went on a two-week-couch-surfing-road-trip-extravangaza-palooza with my best friend last May to Omaha, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Stanford, Yosemite, Las Vegas, Bryce Canyon, Denver, and Chicago.

Teach, Learn, Share

I strive for balance, though I suppose everyone does. I hope only to teach, learn, and share the ways people live.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Conversation and enthusiasm, mostly. I'm not much of a chef, but I'm happy to give it a go with you.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bahamas, Canada, Denmark, England, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Turkey

Countries I’ve Lived In

Japan, Scotland, United States
