About Me

Hello, 🤙 I’m Sam. I’m 26 and come from a place called Reading in England. I am fluent in English but love learning new phrases in different languages. One of my favourite things to do is to explore and meet new people. I especially enjoy being active but you can also catch me chilling on the beach too in the sea. I enjoy a quiet social drink or even dancing at night too. Always on the hunt for local food at markets - always find the best meals there. Visited loads of places so far but without a locals touch to show us around, you never lose the feeling that you’re not missing out on some hidden gems. So...back at home, I work within the hospitality sector, however, at university I studied Fine Art. Subsequently I now have started tattooing which I’m loving. Here is my Instagram for more insight to me - @scallywag666. I’m travelling with my partner Eve, check our her profile here - https://www.couchsurfing.com/users/2011440896?utm_campaign=profile_share&utm_source=couchsurfing-ios

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As we visit different places, I can’t shake the feeling that we aren’t getting the full picture of what that culture is really l like. I feel like the only way that we will truly understand a place, is through the locals.

Interests

Im currently learning to become a tattoo artist and practice on my self and willing clients. This means I draw every day to further my skills, the other thing that takes up a lot of my time is rock climbing I’d love to be shown a local gyms, boulder, or wall to have a go on or if you have never been I could show you the ropes!!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love most films however, my favourite type of film though would have to be something by Quentin Tarantino...Pulp Fiction or Kill Bill. Something with an interesting universe for sure! If you haven’t seen these I’ve probably watched them a hundred times so one more time wouldn’t hurt! I love all kinds of music, you’ll find me listening to something different every day. If I had to name a favourite though, it would be Nirvana. I’ve been to an array of music festivals in the UK, would happily share my experiences with you. I love finding Live Music, there’s something special about it. As I mentioned I’m dyslexic, so books aren’t my thing. But listening to lectures and podcasts are one of my favourite things to do on a long journey. My favourite Podcast at the minute is ‘The JRE Experience’.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I’d have to say that one amazing thing I’ve done is getting my Fine Art degree whilst being dyslexic is definitely up there. It made me realise I like a challenge (and succeed), which in hindsight is probably why I came travelling. A couple of months ago I started rock climbing and I’ve continued to do that in nearly every country I’ve been in. Most recently climbed Chong Pli in Krabi.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you the English language - of course. I love educating people on our terms of phrase, they always find it funny. I would love to learn your culture and more about the history of your country. There’s only so much information Netflix documentaries can provide! I’d love to exchange with you an insight into our culture and our way of life. We’ve found such a contrast so far which I think is beautiful and enlightening. I love to cook at home, so I’d definitely enjoy cooking with you. Could even prepare something English if you’d like? Travelling has fuelled me with tonnes of stories and experiences in which I’d be happy to share with you. We may find that we have shared similar experiences. My plans are totally open, in fact what I really want to do, is just to follow you and get a taste of what it’s really like to be in that town!
