About Me

26 year old gay Aussie school teacher currently based in London.

Really enjoy my job, especially the fact that it allows me time to travel so regularly. I have been in London for over three years now so have been able to explore a lot of amazing places and have met some awesome people along the way.

I teach Geography currently but also trained to teach economics and legal studies so a lot of my interests relate to those things (I often bore my students with photos of seaside erosional landforms when I return from a holiday).
Apart from that I am really into film, literature and music and try to go gigs when I can and am a regular at the cinema, but usually during the week im pretty quiet and trying to find time to read.

Also love a beer and a chinwag - not the biggest party animal but enjoy a bigger night out from time to time.

I try to get outdoors when I can although London isn't the best place for beautiful scenery so love to see what other places have to offer. Have done some hikes in the last year in Albania and Spain and am really enjoying doing more nature-based things in my travels. My latest toy is a DJI spark drone so will be looking to take that with my to cool places.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Solo travel has become my preferred way of travelling over the last couple of years, I love the freedom it gives you and I love to meet new people, especially locals when I go places.

I tend to be able to get out travelling about 3 months of the year which is amazing - for the most part I've been staying in Hostels on most of my trips. I've been meaning to try couchsurfing for ages now but haven't got around to it so hopefully 2018 is the year I get it going!

Looking to meet locals and interesting people in the cities and towns I visit - it's always great to have an insider perspective and knowledge of a place and I really feel like I learn more about a place/ connect with it better when I spend time with locals there.

Interests

Love my music and a big supporter of Australian music - most of my favs are still relatively small Aussie bands.
Also really interested in politics - I was previously quite involved in Labour politics in Australia, have taken more of a step back from direct involvement now but I'm still interested in left-wing politics.
Love to take pictures where I go, I bought myself a nice-ish camera a few years ago and have been meaning to take a photography course but I haven't got around to it yet (another 2018 goal maybe?)
I'm a gay man so is always great to meet other queer people where I go, but am equally happy meeting and hanging with anyone!
Really enjoy films although wouldn't really describe myself as a film buff. I enjoy a good artsy film but also can get behind hollywood trash too.
One thing I miss about Australia is the coastline and the beach! I did a dive course a few years ago before visiting the Great Barrier Reef, and have been lucky to dive in a few other beautiful spots around the place too.

Music, Movies, and Books

What i've been listening to this year: Rosalia, Lizzo, Leon Bridges, Michael Kiwanuka, Skeggs, Sublime, MØ, Smith Street Band.
What I've watched this year - Pain and Glory, Booksmart, Rocketman
What I've read this year - I'm trying to read a book a week this year, its tough but I'm going ok! Currently on book 39 and reading Tropic of Chaos by Christian Parenti and trying to get through Moby Dick.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the summer I climbed Mt Acatenango in Guatemala and watched Mt Fuego erupting next to it all night, it was incredible. Last year I completed the final 220km of the Camino in Santiago with a friend - it was an amazing trip and a big achievement for me as I hadn't ever walked distances like that before.
