About Me
Hello CouchSurfers!!
I am Sam, I am a young filmmaker from the UK! Thanks to that and travelling I have had the chance to see a lot of different places and meet some really incredible people. I have been making a film on the nature of addiction and the history of this fascinating subculture of addiction treatment, called ibogaine. It has been such an incredible eye opening journey and I hope to continue to be able to document how this subculture grows and transforms.
My interest is in the nature of the mind, and what has happened with 'mental illness'. How we have got to this position, and how people combat/work with it. It is a topic, that to me is endlessly interesting and hopefully will be able to have some application. Due to this being an interest I am going to Japan, to start to understand how they treat people with all sort of disorders. Its a specific Japanese treatment, but seem like something that could have great effects if applied in other parts of the World.
Apart from mental health I am interested in all sorts of things, reading outside on strange street, bouldering, going off path on hikes, but I like seeing strangers 'views' of the city, which is why I like couchsurfing. I love that me, a stranger can stay with you, another stranger, and together we get a peek into a world we might otherwise never have recognised and known. I like all the different networks it creates around the world!
If I get the chance to stay or hang out with you, Id love to see your version of wherever it may be!

Music, Movies, and Books
Music is one of my main interest. I like most music and am pretty open to hearing new things. I am a big fan of shoegaze as well as some jazz and blues, however recently ive been listening to a lot of orchestral and choral music, which im greatly enjoying. I listen to all sorts of stuff, and make a real effort to go to live performances and festivals, which have always been very good fun!
Books
I will read a lot of different types of books, particularly book of psychology and psychotherapy. However I like a lot of sci fi books and generally esoteric-themed literature. Some of my favourite writers are Herman Hesse, Philip K Dick, Stanislav Grof, Aldous Huxley, Richard Brautigan, Richard Alpert(Ram Dass), Terrence Mckenna, Carlos Castenada and whatever else will keep me confused and curious for as long as possible.
As for films, I watch plenty of documentaries but have recently started watching all sorts of films. I am very open to new films and do like seeing them, I just rarely get the opportunity.
