About Me

Hello!

My name's Sam. I'm 21, and left college at the start of spring '17. I lost track of my passion and how a college education was serving me. So I left to work and find clarity.

I've always been an independent thinker, self-motivated, adventurous. Post college, I worked in food service for a couple months, than managed sales for a start-up at local farmer's markets. That smiley, fun guy, with a thousand samples you should totally try? That was me! Ask me all about it!
When the season ended, I needed more menial work to create headspace. Purpose was to reflect on what I really wanted in life. So I worked as a Barista and receptionist, and filled in extra working hours with manual labor, tutoring Pre-Calc, administrstive assisting, and cleaning crossfit gyms.

This period of time was hugely productive for me personally, and I'm on to the next step. I've wrapped all my random gigs up, have been a rideshare driver for a few weeks, and I rediscovered what I've dreamed of since I was a wee lad. More below!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
country, classic rock (70s guy), classical (reading and studying), modern rock (if it's really called that...), men's acapella- great sound.
Not gonna lie, I belt it out with Moana, Princess Anna and Phil Collins in the car with Disney jams. No shame. My spotify can be far more specific.
Also- Cuban Music! (Buena Vista Social Club)
Sometimes you need to get the Led out, Imagine Dragons, sing about the line where the sky meets the sea (it calls me), or go salsa dancing. Then curl up with a book and Yo-Yo-Ma.

Movies:
Darkest Hour, V for Vendetta, Cloud Atlas, ANYTHING Marvel, Batman Trilogy, Moana, Frozen, Fight Club, Secret Life of Walter Mitty, La La Land, Anchorman, Talledega Nights- The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I joined a frat in college (amazing, right?). The culture was more aligned with the SJW agenda than Animal House, but we had fun.

The amazing thing was the mens' support group I started.

I was bad with emotions and communicating with my girlfriend, so I spent a ton of time in the counseling center taking classes and building those skills up. And I took all of that experience and made a weekly brotherhood event of coming together, talking about difficult things we're going through, and learning how to be effective with emotion in a group of men. The hidden agenda was also to provide a safety net for brothers in serious distress, because usually those things go unnoticed untill it's too late.

We all grew immensely, and caught a few brothers before they fell off the deep end. Mission Accomplished.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love keeping my spanish up. I'm just conversational, entonces- habla despacio, por favor

I was taught very early on that you impress people more by the questions you ask than the things you can say.
I ask lots of questions :)

I want to learn about the dream you're chasing in life! Or, what floats your boat? Why are you letting strangers sleep on your couch? Why are you letting me?

It's nice to know there are great people out there, isn't it?

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversation
Basic but delicious cooking- my breakfasts are top notch.
Questions- big and little
Grocery shopping- can I grab some extra stuff for you?
Laughs
Book recommendations- mostly non-fiction
Cleaning. Dishes and kitchen counters or a full house detail! Feels good to have everything sparkling and fresh

Countries I’ve Visited
