About Me

I'm a tutor who breaks up his time between lessons by travelling.

After graduating university, I took a job in finance and discovered the crushing reality of office work: long days (and nights), politics and endless spreadsheets. I'd never travelled and was stuck in a career which I loathed. So I decided to make a change; I quit the industry in January 2017 and struck out on my own as a tutor. Today, I teach economics to students throughout London, the UK and the world! Check out my website here: http://www.economicstutor.london/ During the summer, when students are taking a well-deserved break, I pack my bags and head out exploring.

I first used Couchsurfing in the summer of 2017 at the start of my first big solo trip, which took me through Canada. Before I set off a friend recommended I give it a try. Without much thought, I sent my first request and the rest is history! I stayed with some amazing people all the way from Montreal to Vancouver and was hooked. Since then I've stayed with people in Vietnam, France and Denmark and look forward to adding more countries to the list in future.

Upon returning to London after that summer trip, I started to host guests of my own and am look forward to welcoming other travellers to my city! If you'd like to stay, please read the "My Home" section!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My trip to Canada introduced me the world of Couchsurfing. Despite my initial nerves, my first hosts were wonderful and made me feel welcome in their home and their city. Since then, I've stayed with all sorts, from a Bitcoin miner in Ontario to a chef in Saigon.

Couchsurfing is much more than a free place to stay; the real value is the people you meet, the places you visit and the experiences you enjoy that only come when staying with locals who know the city/town/village where you are staying!

I finally have a house in London large enough to accommodate guests, so I'm going to be paying it forward this summer before going off on my second trip!

Interests

When I'm not traveling, I spend a lot of time dedicated to my work as an economics tutor in London. This involves leading tutorials, preparing lessons and keeping up with the latest business and economic news.

In my free time, I get up to all sorts! Like everyone else I read (not enough) and watch TV (too much) but also spend plenty of time exercising (gym, running, squash and bouldering), socialising (lovely cans) and working on side projects here and there.

I'm a big fan of wine so can have a decent crack at recommending a bottle of grape juice that you'll love!*

I keep up to date with current affairs and love a good chat about politics, often over some beer or wine if you like. Yes, you can ask me about Brexit. :P

* There is no guarantee that you will enjoy wine recommended by me. No refunds. Terms and conditions apply.
