Overview
About Me
Hi! I'm Sam, I grew up in rural south-west England and have been living for the past 4 years in the wonderful city of Bristol. I work as a secondary school teacher (ages 11-18) teaching French and Spanish, so
I love travelling, meeting people, finding out about different cultures, sharing experiences, and seeing new places, particularly through the eyes of someone who knows it really well.
I'm particularly keen on music - both listening and playing. I play the french horn, guitar, irish bouzouki, harmonica, a bit of piano, and have been known to dabble in anything else I can get my hands on.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To see new places and spend time with locals without being a tourist in the usual sense- couchsurfing seems a great way to connect with people and enrich everyone's travel experience. To exchange cultures, ideas, customs etc is the whole point of travelling so why not do that as much as possible?
Unfortunately unable to host for the moment as I'm living with flatmates - but as soon as I can will be re-opening a couch!

Music, Movies, and Books
ooooh lordy where to start
Music: the Beatles, Pink Floyd, the Eagles, Radiohead, Iron and Wine, James Taylor, the Killers, the War on Drugs, Half Moon Run, Arcade Fire, John Mayer, Ryan Adams, etc etc etc
Films: I'm from the town where they filmed Hot Fuzz so that will always have a very special place in my heart, also chicken run is the greatest piece of art (probably) of all time
Books: 1984, les mots, candide, one flew over the cuckoo's nest, the shipping news, a tale of two cities, en attendant godot, shakespeare, beaumarchais
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I played rugby in Mongolia against Ulanbaatar's best team, featuring 9 international players on a pitch completely covered in rocks, losing more skin than I would have liked in the process (but we did win so there's that)
Teach, Learn, Share
Languages : I will teach you all the welsh I know (which will not take long) upon request - or if the slightest opportunity arises. Alternatively I am very happy to try and explain some of my knowledge the finer points of English and French (which will take slightly longer!) I would love to pick up any words and phrases in any other languages as well
I also love to share general musical stuff, be it technical instrumental stuff, bits and pieces of theory, or just having a sing together
Finally - and most importantly - soup
What I Can Share with Hosts
I guess enthusiasm is the main thing - I'm keen to learn about people from different places, how they live, what they value, and what they like to do. Equally, I can share my (oh so limited) knowledge and experiences - I've done some fairly cool stuff which I do like to talk about!
