About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn. To eat delicious food. To listen to beautiful music. To encounter the new.

ABOUT ME

I find myself forever on the move. For the past couple years I've been living in California, where I've been teaching middle school students in the Redwoods, on the coast, and at our farm. I live in a yurt next door to our milking goats and chickens. I enjoy the liminal, and at the moment the liminality between the rural area in which I live and the bright lights of San Francisco and Oakland have treated me quite well. I am fascinated by people and their connection to the places where they live. I'm a bit of a nerd.

Oh, and I have an irrational proclivity for anything orange.

PHILOSOPHY

I live to learn and to teach.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've only couchsurf'd once, and that was while visiting Urfa, a small city on the border of Turkey and Syria. It was fantastic. The university students we stayed with were brimming with generosity.

Interests

Cooking (especially fermenting, braising, and baking). Being active (especially running, swimming, bicycling, playing ultimate frisbee, surfing, skiing, backpacking, and canoeing). Traveling and everything wrapped up in it (new people, new places, photography, writing, reflecting). Live music and the ocean.

Music, Movies, and Books

David Byrne and Brian Eno's album "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today." Tom Robbins' book "Still Life with Woodpecker" (reading it now, trying my best not to finish it). Hayo Miyazaki's film "Princess Mononoke."

Among many many others and many more to come.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I witnessed the goat kid in my profile photo being birthed!

Teach, Learn, Share

Simple cheese making. Simple juggling. How to throw a frisbee. How to catch a marshmallow in your mouth. I'm willing to learn anything.
