About Me
Heyyyyy
My name is Sam and I'm on a big traveling adventure at the moment. Left the US October 2014 and still going!
I was living in Spain for the last year and didn't see any real reason to go home so... I'm heading east. As far as my money and desire can take me pretty much. I'd be psyched to make it as far as Vietnam though
I love love food and cooking and I love having conversations with people to see who they are, what they think, how they live... That's my idea of exploring the world.
I have all these plans:
work a year on an organic farm,
work on more sail boats,
be a radio producer for This American Life,
lead backpack trips for kids,
cook for a living,
write a book (after I exhaust my wanderlust and can handle sitting in a chair and thinking for a lot of hours every day)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
hmmm
I get this really warm happy feeling when I'm in a room with people from all different places.
Also, the best cure for world weariness is meeting someone with a different view of life and inhabiting their world for a while. OR meeting someone from a foreign land who thinks just like you do
Plus
People are the fun part of travel. It's just true. Especially when they're funny or interesting or strange.

Music, Movies, and Books
Since being away from the US, I've realized how much I really like American folk music. Especially when it has singable harmonies. (think Anna and Elizabeth http://www.annaandelizabeth.com
or the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack)
but I also have to admit that I'm a sucker for any pop music with a beat drop. That's all I need, apparently. They drop the beat and I love it and have to jump around. I'm cheap like that.
Movies... Ratatouille and Django: Unchained
But I also love watching any movie in a theatre. Something about the air conditioning, the soft seats and the feeling of "prepare to be entertained!!!"
Again, I'm cheap.
I love books. So much.
Galapagos (Vonnegut) and Cannery Row (Steinbeck) are long standing favorites. This very second I'm reading Dune for the very first time!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I sang for Pete Seeger
I've also hung out with more than my fair share of dolphins and whales-- ooh and spotted a hammerhead shark from the headnet at dawn after a night of sea watches! that was amaaaazing
Teach, Learn, Share
Man, I'm so good at teaching english at this point
I can teach you knots!
I can talk about food for hours-- different dishes, fruits, vegetables. Does that count as teaching?
I do yoga and we could totally get into some of that if you want
I can teach you to play the ukulele. It's real easy.
And I want to learn everything-- especially everything about the place you are from or are living. Traditions, political situation, just what daily life is like... whatever.
And especially recipes. I want to learn how to cook your food. yes please.
