About Me

I know it's cliche but life is incredibly short. I'm not religious and so life is very precious to me. I want to learn everything there is to know about the world. I want to hear stories and go on adventures.

I live with my boyfriend Sam (yes, I know, the Sams) and our cat Shadow in Salisbury, UK. Sam is a pretty talented guitarist, in fact most of our friends are musicians within the local Salisbury scene. Salisbury has a little passion for live bands! I'm just a music enthusiast although I have pretty poor taste, I've got a lot of guilty pleasures ;P

Sam is Salisbury born and bred and I am from South Africa. My folks live in Botswana where they help manage a game farm for the Bushmen people of the Kalahari. Sam and I will hopefully be joining them in the next 5 years to start a tour company there. I will warn you, I'm Afrika Befok (which essentially means Africa mad) and I love telling stories about my home and the wonderful experiences it has to offer.

I love language and culture and I will ask you questions about your life and home, sorry...err....not sorry? :P

We can't offer much but if I have the time we'll take you out and show you Salisbury, if nothing else, it's a free place to crash on your travels and a meal. Travel is expensive! Let's make it easier for each other.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love the idea of staying with locals. I've always felt that in order to really learn about a place you need time and a local host. I would like to experience everything the world has to offer. I believe you should try a 5-star hotel once, for the experience, try a hostel once, for the experience but in order to really experience a country, stay with a local!

As locals, we can sometimes take our environments for granted and by hosting a traveler we open ourselves up to see our homes through the eyes of somebody who has never seen them before. There's something very refreshing in seeing what it is about your part of the world that interests people because it may surprise you.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't read as much as I'd like to but I love travel books. I'm currently reading Tim Butcher's Blood River. I highly recommend it.

As for films, I love animation (whispers, this does include anime), otherwise, I watch quite a lot of horror (anything by Rob Zombie gets my vote), Danny Boyle is quite possibly my favourite director and I also love Quentin Tarantino. Recently, Stranger Things has been my obsession.

Music, I love Sigur Ros, Bjork, Norma Jean, Flyleaf, Flogging Molly, Killswitch Engage, System of a Down, Rise Against, Pixies, Alexisonfire, Tool, Fever Ray, Sublime, Smashing Pumpkins, Mumford and Sons, Deftones, A Perfect Circle, Primus, Listener, Animals as Leaders and well, lots.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't know. Life has been cool.
I'd like to overcome my fear of flying. When I do that I'll put that here. :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to learn about life in Japan, Papua New Guinea and the DRC in particular. Anyone who is from/has visited these place might have to deal with me asking them quite a few questions!

A German traveler I met once taught me how to solve a Rubik's cube. I can teach you that if you're staying for a week ;P

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories. I can cook. My other half is pretty mean guitarist/bass player. I love taking photos and people tell me I'm ok at it so I can give you photos. :)
