ABOUT ME

hello! i'm sam, 23 years young, from the eastern side of the united states. i moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania when i turned 18 and fell so in love with city life that it's become an obsession to travel to new ones. i've been bit by the travel bug and i plan on bigger, better, farther trips the older that i become. i love to explore where you live, what makes your community tick, and all your weird little mom-pop shops and underground music scenes.

for all you hockey fans, i work for the Pittsburgh Penguins. i'd love to let all my fellow Penguins fans know they are all such "super duper" sweet men and i've watched them go out of their way to converse with fans, working for the NHL is one of the best experiences i could ask for in my young life.

i'm an art student at heart. i grew up dancing and in theater, graduated with my class' art departmental award, and went to college for special effects makeup. now i do graphic design work in my spare time from my NHL job and if we end up getting along well enough i definitely don't mind networking a bit. :)

PHILOSOPHY

i have three cliche rules to live life by:
-"see the world."
-"treat others the way you would want to be treated."
-"life is too short to sweat the small stuff."

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

mostly surfing. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania isn't really a top ten on people's "must-see cities". however, in between work i would love to meet up with other CSers around my city for a coffee and some good tips and experiences!

**SIDE NOTE:
i know i'm unfortunately not verified! i can't host at the moment because i live in a house with roommates that haven't quite grasped the fortunate side of hosting surfers--and when this point eventually passes i will pay the $25 to verify. if you'd like to get to know me as a person and as a traveler without $25 telling you that i'm real, here's a silly and poorly shot video of me, my best friend, and my boyfriend on a vacation to NYC and Atlantic City:

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

my future trip to california will be my first time couchsurfing, but i hope for it to be a pleasant one!

Muzyka, filmy i książki

i've grown an enormous fondness for movies with the help of my beau, Phillip. he's a film dictionary, so i'm seasoned enough. my preferences however are admittedly girly, i love Disney movies and cheesy 80s movies and superheroes and comedies. i'm not into horror flicks, and Tim Burton was an inspiration for me getting into art school.

i have an unhealthy love for the band Panic! At The Disco.

books are time-consuming movies. i only spend said time with chuck palahniuk, paul neilan, and hunter s. thompson.

i've stood atop the empire state building, over niagara falls, over the grand canyon.

i learned to navigate the las vegas strip at thirteen, learned enough Spanish to buy a dress for my baby sister in Tiajuana, and watched a dust storm sweep past our car in the arizona desert.

amazing things are a slow process, but they build.

my ability to teach you anything relies solely on what you are willing to learn! every person has a different set of hobbies and personality they are able to convey to others and i really dont mind letting you learn from anything i've experienced in my lifetime.
