My name is Sam Duckles, i'm 23 years old and from Lancaster, England. I am currently backpacking around South America with my girlfriend. We started in Peru and are planning on going to Bolivia, and maybe Paraguay (depending on funds!), ending up in Chile where we plan to hopefully find jobs teaching. Back in the UK i was a technician working for an electronics company and also cared for a disabled woman part-time. My last adventure was 3 years ago when me and my friend moved to China to teach English to kindergarten kids in Shanghai. I loved every minute of the job and because of that i would very much like to get involved in that kind of work again. For 10 months we taught kindergarten age and for the last 2 months we taught adults which i loved equally as much even though it was very different. When we finished the job we travelled through China into Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and eventually Thailand. I came back to the UK in December 2013 with the intention of leaving a month later for New Zealand however for various reasons, the main one being i met my girlfriend (the ball and chain!) who was half way through a nursing degree, i ended up staying. Undeterred, i bought my pride and joy: Desdemona. She's a 22 year old camper-van which i managed to quash my itchy feet with by doing a few road trips and music festivals over the summers.

I love the outdoors, camping, walking, cycling - all right up my street. As mentioned i enjoy going to gigs and music festivals. Last year me and my girlfriend and a few friends went to Soundwave in Croatia which was a highlight of the summer. I'm into old skool hip-hop, funk and soul, ska, reggae, jazz, drum and bass, basically anything with a rude beat and funky horns i'm into. I used skateboard when i was a bit younger however due to various injuries and me not improving enough at it to justify the pain i had to quit. I have a dog called Bruce! He's a white Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is currently living with my girlfriends sister while we're away and i miss him dearly :( I would say i'm patient, genuine and down to earth with a spirit for adventure so let's meet up!

I am on Couchsurfing because i love the "mi casa su casa" ethos. It's the way the world should work! In a day and age where we communicate mainly through Facebook and other such platforms, Couchsurfing brings people together who would never have normally met. I like that through Couchsurfing there is a mutual trust between both parties even though they are strangers, which allows for the concept to work. I Couchsurfed a bit in Asia and found it's a great tool when you're travelling for meeting local people along the way which you just don't get from staying in hostels, and on the flip side its a great way for hosts to connect to an international community of people. I haven't hosted many people because i first got into Couchsurfing just before i left my flat in Shanghai to go travelling down China and then since being back in the UK i haven't lived in my own place. However i would love to host more once i am settled (hopefully in Chile).

So as said above i like being outdoors. I have my campervan back in England that i use to get out into the sticks on the weekend to climb up big hills and jump in big lakes :) I love camping in general, campfires, marshmallows, hot toddies round the fire all good stuff in my opinion. I try to get to as many music events as i can, i have a few music festivals that i regularly attend in the summer. I skateboarded a few years back as also stated above however hurting myself and not being good enough to get paid for it made me stop. I played drums for a while too and was in a band when i was younger. I sold my kit before i went to China though so i'm a bit rusty these days. I love doing new things, i love my friends, and i love my dog. I've had periods over the years of going to the gym routinely however it only ever lasts a few months then slowly slips. I like playing poker with my friends from time to time however i'm not very good at it, which makes it an expensive hobby.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I think the best time I've had in my life so far was doing Vietnam and Cambodia on a motorbike. Me and my friend bought little 125cc bikes in Hanoi in the north of Vietnam and travelled down to the South and into Cambodia over a period of about 2 months . The freedom of having your own wheels to explore allows you to get seriously off the beaten track. We got lost, we got wet, we stayed in some mad places, it was amazing.

Me and my Girlfriend are both TEFL qualified English teachers so we can offer tuition to hosts in return of the favour. My girlfriend is also a qualified nurse so should you require any medical attention while we are with you she would be more than happy to help. In addition to that if you require any odd jobs doing while we are with you then please just ask. Whether it be cooking, cleaning, D.I.Y, child minding, shopping, we are both quite capable. Other than that all we can share is our big hearts and smiles :)
